Help... only 14 or 15 more weeks to relocate to Poland!

Ouch, just checked my calendar and realised I'm supposed to be relocating to Poland in about 14/15 weeks. Wow, knowing how quickly time flys this is a little unnerving, I can't wait, but what it means is really must concentrate on being frugul and saving every penny. Thankfully my Polish missus is very adept at saving. Its at times like this that one has to really remind onesself that every £20 just casually spent is 100zl in Polska and that goes so much further. I'm really excited though, this will herald a new chapter in our life; although my understanding of Polish and get by vocabulary is there I'm excited by the prospect of total immersion in the language. I've witnessed Poles arriving in the Uk with only "hello" and "goodby" and within six months they are speaking English (obviously not perfect, but well).

Although my work plans revolve around opening a buisness, possibly teaching. I'm thinking mabye I should eat some humble pie and go and find a basic menial job, obviously not for the money.
Rather as a means of A) forcing myself to speak Polish and B) So as to garner a true sense of what the average Polish man has to go through in order to make ends meet and to get a clearer sense of life in the frontline.

Question. Are security operatives required to be liceinced in Poland?
hmm, mabye I should go and work as a bouncer in Poland, hmm thats actually not a bad idea, hmm.

best of luck to you hun on your relocating .. have you tried EURES website to help look for employment in Poland they can email you back with info etc .. i may still have all the files .. lets see .... looks like they have vanished when my pc went into a mind of its own ... but i had a UK based EURES advisor email with all the information regarding it and that you can send them your CV and they will search for employment for you for 4 weeks.

Thanks Tele, I've been busy hunting websites. Somehow, I think employment will be provided through family and friends. My missus seems to have cousinks everywhere so I reckon thats the ticket.

Where abouts in PL are you going?

Well if you are looking for a quick way to get a job teaching English is a good idea. There is a course called Callan, it seems to be very popular in Poland and most schools will take you without having a qualification. Its very easy to teach and is a good starting base. You would be surrounded by Polish people all the time and although you would be speaking English mainly they can tell you translations, you can chat during the lunch breaks and also talk with the other teachers. I've thought about Callan and it is a possibility and I've also considered TEFL. I'm somewhat loathed to shell out the £1000 or so for a 4 week course, because it works out as £1000 + rent and food and travel for a month in London £1000. So thats £2000 which is a hefty sum in Polish terms. Also I'd prefer to teach privately, which would mean a TEFL would look nice but well how relevant would it be. Finally with private lessons I'd be able to concentrate on conversation. Proof reading is on the possibility list.

However, opening our little buisness is a priority for me and £2000 would go a long way towards it.

In the ideal world I'd work weekends doing security (however badly paid), during the week work in the shop and also attend school for language lessons. If however our shop doesn't take off, then teaching in a language school would be the obvious answer.

In truth I want to run my own buisness, working for someone is really not what I want.

If all else fails, i shall return periodically to do security in the UK every so often.

Eventually depending on how long it takes me to have a fluent level of Polish 3 to 4 years, I would like to head into the consultancy buisness in Poland specific to the FB and security markets.

I suppose it would be possible to head into this field earlier on the proviso the clients spoke English (or French.)

Right just got shouted out down the phone for suggesting the idea of a menial job so as to learn from it. Apparently, "Are you a ******* chav, why don't we just register for a ******* council flat".my missus, hmmm....so perhaps I'll forgo that particular idea...hmm
