Help for Polish people within the Solihull or Birmingham area

Dear all,

If any one knows any polish people within the Solihull or Birmingham (West Midlands England) area? if yes can you please get in touch,as I am trying to make life easier for my polish friends,Rafa and Dagmara, who are wonderful by the way ,who work in my local hotel bar,here in Solihull. (which is in The West Midlands area of England)

As I have got to know them I have realised that they both work very long and very anti social hours,and to boot the rate they are paid is very low.

Plus on top of this they struggle to make ends meet as their paying rent on a house which takes up a large part of their rent,which makes it harder for them to send money back to Rafas parents who are looking after their 8 year old daughter.

I have helped them by getting them information regarding benefits and housing and also buying them polish food to make them feel less homesick than they already are,but I would like to help with their social scene and hopefully get them to meet other polish people in the same area as it would make them feel less lonely than they already are. As the town their living in is not very friendly towards foreigners at best and no one has really been friendly towards them.

i am from the area and although I live in London now I often return. Every time I hear and see that there are more and more Polish people there, especially driving buses in Brum. I know there is some kind of Polish Cultural Institute in Birmingham which might be a good place to start and apparantly some Polish clubs springing up, but sorry I dont know the details or personally know any Poles living there right now, but they shouldnt be too hard to find as there are tons. Honestly ? If you are doing the same job they do, then they have better future than you have, If they want to find other Poles so much they will do It easily and If you want to help poor people so much then you better send some money to Africa.

Well, tell them to get higher level education and get a good job instead of working at a bar for minimum wage or washing dishes. Education is the key to a better life; it's an investement. Better yet, maybe they can learn some English too.
UK cities are not really that used to immigrants, therefore they aren't being to nice towards immigrants who they think are ruining the economy.
If those poles want to feel like they're in Warsaw, maybe they can move to another country such as US to Chicago since it's the second largest polish speaking city in the world.

all depends on your definition of decent doesnt it. Although it has had a bad reputation, actually some parts of Handsworth are quite desirable these days...got to be better than Newhall anyway.

True - but some bits are as bad as ever... as I found out when my car cut out travelling through there one night..

are there any polish consulates in manchester? and near stoke on trent?
