Sorry, forgot that basic democratic principles aren't en vogue here... :D

You are doing this again. Why don't you find yourself hobby other than writing down your ignorant views on PF.

And Breslau, Stettin, Stolp, Posen and Danzig should belong to Germany.

It's the best example of your ignorance. You know some and you use it against any Polishness. I doubt Germans would claim back Posen.

Give them back and you can have L'viv.

They will not get L'viv even if they give up the whole Poland and drown in the Baltic sea :)

I doubt Germans would claim back Posen.

If you keep chatter like you do, I think we will be able to persude them to change their stance on Posen an other places :)

What is Polishness in your sense? To be an as*-hole and stir the international rumble? For me Polishness is being nice neighbors with Ukrainians.

Nat how old are you? Have you ever lived in Ukraine other then as a kid ?
You are the best example of an *******.
Your big talk is pathetic.

I doubt Germans would claim back Posen.

Even if they were is a separate issue.

What age has to do with the topic, Irony, my dear? I am trying to be nice as you see. I have to poke you with a stick to your ribs to bring senses into your youth. This is not a big talk. I am not interested even in a single square meter of Polish land. But I will rip your throat out for a piece of mine. So, shut the hell up and see you in 2012 for beer in L'viv.

That's how I see it.

Well, it is the Polish city !

There maybe some characteristics of the city that are Polish, but technically its Ukrainian since its in Ukraine.

Short of starting a war, the city will never be part of Poland so I don't know why some Poles keep talking about getting it.

Even if it was made part of Poland with the territory around it, THEN you would have non-Poles in Polish territory that will only make Poland harder to control, like it was historically when more non-Poles lived in Polish territory.

Frankly, considering Poland's volatile history, the people of Poland today should appreciate the territory they live in today and just focus on doing the best with it. It shouldn't be taken for granted that there isn't some nearby predator Hitler or Stalin like country today looking to destroy Poland.

The vast majority do. Where do the posters arguing for regaining the city come from?

I have noticed MW that you don't know much. Your comments in the thread about Lithuanians discriminating Poles were quite ignorant.
The same goes for above. You talking but you do not think, precisely because of the history and neighbors Poland should become a power, that nobody would dare to pick on her.

Regain some territories which belonged to Poland long before Columbus was born is not the most important issue on the menu, but nevertheless an issue which cannot be avoided, eventually.

Come over and you will see :) Euro2012 is a good chance for everyone to check it out. It is a beautiful city in western Ukraine, rich in culture, traditions, cafes, museums, theaters, cobblestone, chestnut trees, universities, 755 year-old history and beer tradition of 300 years to be celebrated in 4 years. Above all Lviv residents and Ukrainians in general are very welcoming.

MediaWatch, you should definitely visit it. I know you won't regret it :)

The chances of Lwów once again becoming part of Poland? Almost nil as politicians don't want it. Chattering on a forum will do very little but it wouldn't change anything anyway.

Nathan I don't think there is a brotherhood between hard core Polish nationalists and Ukrainian nationalists. But I think most centrist/mainstream Poles and Ukrainians get along. Especially among the Polish and Ukrainian diaspora.

But one thing which is undeniable, is that the Polish government, as far as I know, has been the biggest supporter of Ukraine. I don't know of any other government that has been as supportive of Ukraine.

But as for nationalists, I still think it was interesting that a Polish nationalist like the late president Kaczynski got along well with Ukrainian nationalist president Yushenko.

I'm sure there will always be differences between some Poles and some Ukrainians, but I think mainstream Poles and Ukrainians get along.

There's rarely brotherhood between hard core anything nationalists and hard core anything else nationalists... Besides, he wasn't really talking about brotherhood.

I do not see why Poland would need these territories. It is similar to some crazy germans wanting Wrocław. It would be nice of course to have Lwów but it simply will not happen. I do not understand why people go on and on about this here.

It is an iron topic for going on and on. It reappears a few times a year in different threads. :):):):) Some people have little obsessions, you should accept it. :):):)

I'm sorry guys but Lviv will never be a part of Poland like Gdansk, Szczecin and Wroclaw will never be a part of Germany.

Besides why do you need that?

Study history to understand the reasoning.

Ukrainians and Polish are friends only as neighbours but not as one country.

When Lviv and Western Ukraine was part of Poland it wasn't good at all. Polish hated Ukrainians and Ukrainians hated Polish. As a result, Polish were killing Ukrainians and Ukrainians were killing Polish.

Why do you want to cause unnecessary deaths? Just to have "extra" territory?

Polish may easily come to Ukraine, in fact, you even do not need visa! So you may visit Lviv as often as you wish.
At this stage, Ukrainians do not have such luxury and they require a visa to come to Poland.

So be happy about it!

Right now Lviv is a heart of Ukraine and its culture. Over 95% Lviv inhabitants speak Ukrainian and neither Polish nor Russians were successful to force Western Ukrainians to change their identity.

So what's the point to cause a new war or even think about it?

I would suggest to close this topic as it inspires unfriendly thoughts to a neighbouring country.

As someone born and living in Poland I can say that nobody here in their right mind would talk about changing borders again. Only ultra-nationalists and some of the Polish diaspora abroad, who have never been here (or only briefly visited) but have a lot of *perfect* ideas on what Poland should be like. Preporsterous.

Same question: Chance of Breslau becoming again part of Germany. So ?
Or Allenstein, Gruenberg, Hirschberg...Take your pick.

Don't forget the places which were so un-Polish that Polish names had to be made up for them in 1945/6/7.

Now i understand why my Great grand father choose this city to study in when it still was Polish.

You mean 95% Russians?

No, we are completely different people than Ukrainians and all this 'slavic' people, especially Eastern slavs.
And why do you think Lviv is a city with highest living standards in Ukraine? Wchich still is crappy when compared to ours (western) standards.

Western borders are where they supposed to be (you can analogically say - why Poland exist? It's lands belong to Prussia, Austria and Russia!)

Which Ukrainians maintain admirably, so where is the problem?
gumishu 13 | 6,134

would there be a problem if they didn't maintain it?

it is theirs so let them suit themselves in their city

I like repeating myself (OK I lied) every Pole who says we should consider going after Lwów again is nuts

Hmm, destroying cultural monuments from the baroque or Renaissance era somehow sounds.... barbaric to me, sorry. Leveling the £yczakowski cemetery or destroying the Potocki palace could maybe also anger some Poles and hurt relations between both countries, I don't now.
