Kazimiera Grabowska/Gutowska "Widow" (she was married only for six months as her husband had been killed)survived genocide in Volyn, as a nurse took part in defense against Fascist Ukrainian Organization UPA(Bandera, whose bands were perpetrating ethnic cleansing in 1943-44) in Huta Stepanska. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Huta_Stepa%C5%84ska
Then as a soldier(nurse) of 27Volyn Infantry Division (Home Army) took part in its campaign. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/27th_Home_Army_Infantry_Division_(Po land)
Just to be killed by Soviets.
Her fate was typical for Home Army soldiers in general and for soldiers of 27 Volyn Infantry Division in particular.
Soldiers of that division went through hell in Volyn. Took part in combat against UPA and Germans then liberated few towns in Lubelszcyzna before the Red Amry showed on the territory. Only to be treated like enemy by Soviets and their sidekicks so called "Polish" authorities. They were disarmed, some were murdered, some executed but most were send to Gulags.
Before execution Kazimiera Grabowska refused to be blindfolded.Being know for her outstanding courage she said to her executioners when faced with blindfold "Why don't you put it on yourselves" She was 23 years old.
