Blue eyes of Gavrilo for the independance of Poland. Was it worth?

Serbian Gavrilo Princip - for some, freedom fighter that sacrificed his life. For some others, a terrorist

Let us not forget that independence of new Polish state after 1918 started with sacrifice of one Serbian student in Bosnia, Gavrilo Princip. Gavrilo assassinated Austro-Hungarian archduke Ferdinand, what initiated chain reaction of events that after WWI resulted in independence of Poland.

What i want to ask, was it worth? i mean, Gavrilo was sure that freedom of Slavs was above importance of his life. But, what about Poland? Was independence some `cursed` gift for the state that actually wasn`t ready for the independence or Poland absolutely needed to be independent? On the end, what Poland doing with her independence,... tend to be more independent or tend to endanger its own independence?

The Habsburgs had to go and given Princep's tubercular condition perhaps he made a good decision to give his life, which was ending soon regardless, to kill the heir to that moldy dynasty. It does sadden me that two of my great-uncles, both excellent Polish horsemen, died serving in the Austrian cavalry in the war that ensued.

right. Whatever was Gavrilo`s health situation, he actually proved to be very vital, considering how long he survived absolutely abnormal conditions for one human being. Gavrilo died four years after then assassination, in 1918 (he was maybe even killed by authorities if they wanted to prevent his liberation after the war). i would only say that at the time of his death, Princip weighed around 40 kilograms (88 lb), weakened by malnutrition, blood loss from his amputated arm, and disease.

Crow as i said before. You're a thinker. i believe a lot of people are missing the point in what you're trying to say.

You like it or not, Pollacks are more related to Serbs by blood than to any eastern European Russians or Czechs or Bulgarians... btw Ukrainians are our mother in law essentially...

BTW. Check out the new research on national geographic... "the genographic project" most of this stuff can be proven by the recent genome research. For anyone that actually cares and want to find out where pollack came from...

Princip was a Serb who did what he did for Serbia. IMHO he was a brave young man who unleashed a terrible chain of events. Do you really think,he could forsee his act would lead to the first world war,the deaths of millions and the Russian revoloution?

I think he was, regardless what the consequences were...it was just a matter of time that WWI broke out. It happens to be him and his group to light the bomb.

shot that announced independence of Poland - the day when Serbians rebelled BDW, it happened on St. Vitus day by the St. Sava`s Serbian Orthodox Church`s calendar. But, its not secret that St. Vitus represent Christianize saint after the pre-Christian and ancient Slavic God- SVETOVID. To insult Serbians and to provoke them on that day was grave mistake of Austro-Hungaria

Crow, I have a question. How much of Polish history do you learn in schools and how much comes through private research? Others chose the continuation of his act, they used a pretext. Gavrilo felt he had a point to make and war was always on the table anyway. The quest for independence is always worth it if you believe in it enough.
