The guy who wrote Schindler's list. The actual list, not the film script.

The obit mentions Krakow, Auschwitz etc.

Merged: Polish-born ex-US military chief John Shalikashvili dies

US President Barack Obama hailed his "only in America" story, born on June 27, 1936, in Warsaw to Georgian refugee parents fleeing Russia's Bolshevik uprising.

General Shalikashvili was granted US citizenship in 1958, six years after emigrating to Illinois. It was his first citizenship ever, as he had previously been considered stateless. He learned English from John Wayne movies.

How dare you?

Rather easily actually ,as nasty little hate spreaders such as yourself are usually frustrated cowards in both the moral and physical sense.

Wing Commander Tadeusz Sawicz. (303 squadron)

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/obituaries/military-obituaries/air-for ce-obituaries/8851401/Wing-Commander-Tadeusz-Sawicz.html

When the Germans invaded his homeland, Sawicz was serving in Poland with the 114 Fighter Flight of No 1 Air Wing. On September 1 1939, despite flying an antiquated biplane fighter, he damaged a Messerschmitt Bf 109. On September 5 he was appointed a deputy commander of his squadron, and over the next few days was credited with destroying two enemy bombers and damaging two more.

Merged: Poland's last known Battle of Britain vet buried

Tadeusz Sawicz 97, was buried in Poland six weeks after his death in Toronto.

A pilot in the Polish Air Force at the time of the 1939 German invasion of Poland, Mr. Sawicz was among the first to face the formidable power of the German Luftwaffe.

The main Polish fighter, an open cockpit biplane, had once been considered the most advanced in the world, but Polish pilots soon discovered it was horribly outdated against German Messerschmitt Bf 109s. Nevertheless, Mr. Sawicz was able to score at least two kills in the opening days of the conflict.

Sawicz was among the 145 Polish pilots who fought in the Battle of Britain, 31 of which died in action.

In the 1940 Battle of Britain, German bombers pounded Britain’s ports, airfields and cities in a bid to destroy its defenses in preparation for either invasion or surrender.

Merged: Hanuszkiewicz dead at 87

Adam Hanuszkiewicz has passed away at a Warsaw hospital at 87. Born and raised in Lwów, after the Red Army entered Poland he helped set up a theatre group in the regimist army. He was known for taking the p-ss out of Polish patriotism and romantic tradition. I attended his Balladyna at the Wielki Theatre, where his heroine was riding round the hall on a motorbike. He also took controversial libertiess with Shakespeare, Dostoevsky and Chekhov.
