Did you know about it? Poles fought for political freedom and won!

Wiki
Also included on the Second Supply were the first non-English settlers. The company recruited these as skilled craftsmen and industry specialists: soap-ash, glass, lumber milling (wainscot, clapboard, and ‘deal’ — planks, especially soft wood planks) and naval stores (pitch, turpentine, and tar). Among these additional settlers were eight "Dutch-men" (consisting of unnamed craftsmen and three who were probably the wood-mill-men — Adam, Franz and Samuel) "Dutch-men" (probably meaning German or German-speakers)[12] and Polish craftsmen, who had been hired by the Virginia Company of London's leaders to help develop manufacture profitable export products.
[....]
Originally, the colony's Polish craftsmen were barred from participating in the elections, but after the craftsmen refused to work, colonial leadership agreed to enfranchise them. This may be the first strike in recorded North American history.

400th Anniversary of the Arrival of the First Polish Settlers in America on October 1, 1608

On July 30, 1619, the Polish settlers accomplished another noteworthy achievement in the Jamestown colony by staging the first labor strike in America. After being denied participation in the first Virginia assembly, the Polish settlers conducted a labor walkout, not for wages or better working conditions, but for democratic rights. The newly formed House of Burgesses quickly acknowledged the vital role of the Poles in the settlement's well being and granted them the same voting privileges as those enjoyed by the English.

You are vulgarly diminishing the importance of the act. They protested against injustice and lack of freedom. That is typical of Poles. Za wolność waszą i naszą.

Only few things they can do, protests and complains, pray and jesuitical plots are those limits circumscribing their genius.

I chuckled at king polkakamon's comment but I have to agree with pawian - it's a duty of every human being to protest against injustice.

Nope, we both know the result of your reply - another train of complains and protests...

The first duty of every human is in obeying to laws. If every human will obey then there will be neither injustice nor need to be protesting

i`m not surprised. Its that Sarmatism in Poles, seed of true and original European democracy

no wonder that throughout history Racowie (Serbians) so fanatically defended Poland- our eternal light of hope

Poland is one of the foremost defenders of European values. Not only have they defended their own corner over the years but they have also fought battles that meant sth in the broader context of Europe.

The Poles are people of principle and will fight til the last :)

No wonder they got nowhere...
That must have been some relatives of the Kaczinsky's...always throwing tantrums if they feel they aren't in the focus of the world for a second!

Crow:
Listen, this reminds me,... Polish language should be official in EU, not the English. i mean if we wants to live according to best examples of European values and culture, if we speak of native Europe

How is your polish Crowie?
But I bet your english is better than any polish...
Shouldn't you start posting on a polish language board??? (Please!)
How do you expect others to follow your vision if you yourself doesn't even care?

Please read Joel Feinberg, CK. Read up on civil disobedience and its legitimacy.

CK, that was amongst the most naive comments I have ever read.

You are disillusioned like Constantine today.

What is happening to you, guys? Do you really have to pass your depression onto the Forum? Can`t you go and do it somewhere else?

I don't like disorderly, unruly people...always throwing tantrums, protesting, demanding, uprisings, being annoying on principle...not much to be proud of for me!:(

Mind you, maybe it's the German in me! :)

(But I'm so not depressed!!!)

Maybe you don`t like them, but you are visibly fascinated, that is why you are wasting your time here. :):):):)

The same with me. Normally I don`t like Germans, with their crazy Ordnung muss sein, discipline and blind submission to any authority, whether democratic, Nazi or communist.

However, I am always fascinated how these decent disciplined Germans turned into murderous machines during the war and considered it normal. The dark side in the German soul is really fascinating.

I hope you don`t mind my frankness. :):):):)

But I don't think Germans of today are like that.

Hopefully countries of Europe can move ahead from the past.

The important thing was that this was not a strike for higher pay or benefits. This was America's first civil-rights protest launched for the right to vote in the House of Burgesses (the local assembly).

Who in 1939, the beginning of WW2, predicted that Germans would do what they did? :):):):)

Normal, decent, family oriented Germans. But they were so disciplined that when their leaders told them to go and kill Jews, Poles, Russians etc, they obeyed. Weren`t happy about those orders, but obeyed.

Do you think today`s Germans have become so unruly and undisciplined they wouldn`t obey similar orders from their leaders? :):):):):):)

Hopefully countries of Europe can move ahead from the past.

Of course, they can and most have already done. However, there will always be people obsessed with History who like discussing it. I hope it is OK ? :):):):)

Poles have a natural tendency to anarchy and Russians have a tendency to obey brutal force.I mean Yeltsin was a joke for the average Russian as attempt to establish western style democracy failed miserably.

Respect to government, no matter if it is democratic, fascist or communist, is a characteristic of Germans.
In case of Russians we should talk not about respect to government, but fear of it and of repression it may use on individuals, groups or whole nations if they disobey.

king polkakamon:

I wouldn`t call it anarchy. Let`s say it is a natural tendency to live in a free environment without too many rules and do what one thinks is good for him/her. :):):)

Yes, we are absolutely fascinating! *nods*
Nothing beats a beautiful, well oiled, smooth running machine...
A state like this is a recipe for success, internal and international!
Everybody admires and respects us for this...who admires Poles for their tantrums
and uprisings? (Besides the Poles that is).

*admires self*

Then please read Alexis de Tocqueville. The author who is so frequently cited by your "democratic" "intellectuals". He has many passages about equality in his Democracy in America.
