It appears to be true though that Poland was the only European country occupied by Germans where, during the war, a secret organization was created under the auspices of official government solely for the purpose of helping Jews.

Hey, if it wasn't for my parents helping Jews in kieleckie forest during the war, neither my sister or I would be living in The USA.

Correct lol
Plenty of other countires had organised groups that helped the jewish populations,you only have to think of Dennmarks amazing record on this .

Unfortunately UB with powerfull leader Jacob Berman(polish jew) did arrest many of zegota members, Witold Pilecki(hero from Auschwitz).This is a drama

This is good...now, did Jews help save Polish Roman Catholics or Christians from the Nazis or the Communists?

Schindler was in a completely different situation - I don't deny what he did; honourable thing, no doubt, probably a bit brave, too.

I did see the movie: biased story about poor Jews, some good Germans and mother-f.... Poles. This was when I stopped liking Spielberg.

Recent scientific research haas shown that many Poles have an excess of the 'nasty' gene whilst many, with normal levels of 'nasty' genes have reduced amounts of 'nice' genes.
it is not Spielberg that made the Poles evil but nature.
Poles are predisposed to nastiness.

Actually I think Polanski turned down the chance to direct that movie. He probably would have been more historically accurate - The Pianist was not a bad representation of the book.

If you ever get the chance to see "The Other Truth" it's fantastic and deals with the truth. I have the 3 cd's and can see how much Aneta will sell them for. Sadly Jagna passed away last June.

It's amazing how distorted figures are. Humanity values one life, as can be seen by the emotional reactions to death and the deprivation of liberty for 25 years.

Why then did the book I read just this morning put the figure at 10,000?

40,000 is quite a difference!!

"Żegota"... was a codename for the Polish Council to Aid Jews (Polish: Rada Pomocy Żydom), an underground organization of Polish resistance in German-occupied Poland from 1942 to 1945.

The Council to Aid Jews operated under the auspices of the Polish Government in Exile through the Government Delegation for Poland, in Warsaw. Żegota's express purpose was to aid the country's Jews and find places of safety for them in occupied Poland. Poland was the only country in occupied Europe where there existed such a dedicated secret organization.

I believe, 10,000 is the number that they were supporting for an extended period of time, such as providing hiding places and regularly bringing food to those hidden. But they were also giving smaller occasional acts of aid, such as forging baptism certificates, false papers and bringing food and medicine inside Ghettos. It didn't necessarily mean that people who recieved this aid actually survived so 'saved' is an overstatement. 'provided help to...' would be more appropriate.
