Ironside, I agree. Many others must hang their heads in shame for not doing more to get in and about. So many needless deaths. America tends to defend Jewish interests to the hilt so they should dip into their coffers and show their commitment more.

If americans knew about the sheer gruesomeness of the place, they would definitely come on droves, and pay. They like serial murder's tours, gory details of torture and can't wait for televised executions. All you need is a well aimed marketing campaign.

The museum is a remembrance of the atrocities that were committed by humanity. Pro, to tribute the lives that were lost. Memorialize Auschwitz. A place to pray and pay respect. Con, is it necessary to have a museum of hair and shoes of victims? It focuses on the unthinkable gas chambers, medical experimentations... Personally, I haven't been to Auschwitz. I don't care to experience the presence of lost souls and the inhumanity that Nazis even conjured?

.I have no problem with him at all; if we met in person, we would probably share a good time

I think the same. There are certain issues on which I suspect we'll never totally agree, but it would be great to set the world to rights over a few beers. It could be a good evening!

And some of Joe's posts are interesting.

And what do they teach these Israeli children when they take them on these tours?...What do they teach them about Poles?...What travel agencies make the money?...Here is a review of a film by a Jewish film maker on the subject:

I saw a great movie last night, the documentary Defamation, by Yoav Shamir, an Israeli filmmaker. It premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and it is about the consecration of anti-Semitism as the central mode of Jewish identity and the raison-d'etre of Jewish nationalism–it sustains Israel. The group of Israeli kids traveling to Majdanek carries the Israeli flag into the ruined gas chambers, and they all wear sweatshirts with the star of David and the word Israel on the back. The point of the film, stated by one of the sour concentration-camp tour-guides near the end, is that this is a miserable basis for Jewish existence, a cult of death and fear and mistrust. The Israeli kids are so indoctrinated they think that the Poles are out to kill them now, and they don't go out of their hotel room.

No, I think our children need a living reminder of all the things that have gone horribly wrong in the past. It'll crumble one day though, that's for sure. If it crumbles, then..

Make a peacefull park where those that want to can comtemplate, and try to put more emphasis on the good we can do.

..I think this would be the perfect place to erect a memorial stone.

Yes, Jonni, and not only this, but you appreciate art and music: Politics can get deadly after awhile!
