http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=johe2rjYXWM, this is a fantastic interview.

Sean, thanks for the interview. I've never heard him speaking English, now I see it's better than that of most of other Russian politicians. However I should say he's lying speaking that his Russian far better. He's not a good orator... unconvincing. :)

Seanus:
Russia is a police state, quelling any 'disturbances' and quashing any opposition

You know my view on him. He's expressing the dry facts like I quoted but with those facts he's just "one of many". Nothing special...

The important thing is that he is showing the alternative perception, that's what counts. I like a lot of what Putin stands for, I've listened to many of his presentations on Youtube but he has chinks in his armour.

I happened to work with one of the member's of mhg.ru/english/184F451 - Moscow Helsinki Group. I liked his liberal perception more.

Sometime I see him as a big chink with no armour.

Very nice indeed, Sasha. Does this group have teeth? Many such groups lack the required clout to instigate changes in the regime. How seriously does the Russian government take its recommendations?

I'd say it doesn't. It's thoroughly funded from the West and most of its member are so-called "liberasts" (dropping a hint to the word pederast which sounds the same way in Russian and also has a meaning of a bad man with a bad intentions). Those guys mostly are not able to keep the sober look on everything and obviously pursue their own ends. I waslucky and the man I worked with was very honest and kind.
The group I mentioned is the oldest liberal organization in Russia. But I don't think if any organization can have a teeth. They're all in the minority and have to unite (including Kasparov) in one block with such outcast fringe lunatics as Nazbols. On the video posted by Crnogorac you may see their leader Edward Limonov (with a grey beard) sitting and listening to Kasparov and the flying penis.

I don't profess to have a detailed knowledge of Russian lobbying but I can't imagine them making such a profound impact on developments. Their sphere of influence looks good on paper but, in reality, I reckon they are more akin to an awareness raising organisation with no real power to hold anyone to account.

Sean, the current Russian power with all putin's rigour is very coward and the FSB (ex-KGB) is very concentrated on not allowing to do a lot for opposition. They also created some artificial opposition like "Spravedlivaja Rossija" (Fair Russia) in order to show people that they have a choice and at the same time take some commies' votes.
Putin stuck to his word not to increase presidency term but right after Medvedev was elected Putin came up with the suggestion of increasing the presidency term from four to six years and it was approved which means that we would be likely to see Putin twelve years more after Medvedev... Gosh, I won't be able to endure that Finnish parvenu 12 years more.

That was interesting, how he slyly wangled the rules to grant himself more time in office. Still, it lays a dangerous precedent. There are way too many power-hungry figures like him who feel that they can just do as they please.

I found this ironic, like calling the kettle black. With Russia altering history books and setting up a museum honoring "Stalin" as some great hero vs. the murdering monster he was, I see this as an attempt to keep the light on others. "Katyn" was just thrown out of Russia's court and files were taken within Russia in a last ditch effort to hide the truth.

Poland has been ignored and the history silenced for far to long. It is time for the full truth of Soviet crimes and why their leaders feel the Russian citizen's could not deal with the truth?

The Russian people will accept the truth...Politicians play games with history...This is what I hold against Putin...He wants to be a 'member of the global community' but still cannot fess up to his Slavic cousins...

Jesus say: 'Before you offer a sacrifice to God, if you have wronged your brother, make it right with him, even seven times if necessary'.
