Very interesting post by silent. I don't agree with some things he said, but he mentioned many great points.
P.S. The stadium in L'viv is to be finished by August 2011 which is great. New L'viv International Airport terminal to be completed by October 2011. Lots of work is being done on the roads which we cannot in any sane way boast about right now, but I hope they will also be up to the European standards soon. Also the 1st edition of a monthly magazine "Ukraine 2012" appeared in September. It is devoted to following the progress in the 4 accepting Euro 2012 cities of Ukraine and is published in Ukrainian and English. Also it will inform on the history of Euro which originated in 1960. By the way, the greatest club in the whole Universe and far beyound the Milky Way - L'viv FC "Karpaty" is playing this year in the European championship.

Yes - it seems that he's an American living in Poland, didn't know that either until ZY mentioned it. Makes his bid for a solely Polish-languaged forum a bit awkward, don't you think?

Yes he was born in USA. He claims that his family is influential in Polonia circles.

Proof:

Sokrates:

Matt32:
Do you have any statistic to support your claim?

No but I see that mamy PF users who claims to be polish and have racist attitude later turn out to be polish american... weird ;)

It does explain sth. Don't know about that last part, but I remember him saying that an uncle of his was influential in Polonia-circles. That was in the thread in which he tried to prove that Poles have had more influence on New York City than the Dutch :)))

The Presidential Administration announced on Jan. 12 that Stepan Bandera is no longer a Hero of Ukraine, saying a court has cancelled the honor, Kyiv Post reports.

No surprise there. He's a Ukrainian nationalist icon - and bitterly hated by the Russian speaking part.

He was only made a "Hero of Ukraine" for political purposes in the first place - so it should come as no surprise that he was stripped of this honour.

So I take it the stadium won't be named after him?

Wasn't going to be in the first place - it was just the proposal of one particularly nationalist L'viv city council member.

Funny really - both Poles and Russians hate his guts.

The Donetsk District Administrative Court in April declared Yuschenko's decree conferring the title of Hero of Ukraine to Stepan Bandera as unlawful. The plaintiff in the case – lawyer Volodymyr Olentsevych – said that under Ukrainian legislation the title of Hero of Ukraine may be conferred only on a citizen of Ukraine. According to him, Bandera is not a citizen of Ukraine, since he died in 1959 before Ukraine gained independence in 1991.

erm,2 things here,Donetsk, russian part of ukraine no?and, maybe its a legal ploy, but notice they are not condeming him as a bandit, just not technicaly ukrainian. Is this a peculiarly slavic way of thinking,Ive seen it on here a lot with the what is a real pole type threads.

Yes, Donetsk is the Russian speaking part of Ukraine and the rich part.

Usual way of doing things in Slavic countries - instead of making a judgment, they use technicalities to get out of making difficult decisions concerning such things.

i suppose with such a recent history of mass ethnic slaughters and bloodletting for silly reasons we cant sniff when technicalities rather than emotions are involved.
But,and I know i need to don my tin hat now, but there does seem to be a preponderence of what Id ,and most people I know here would call nitpicking, and the worst kind, nit picking of irelevent facts or the nitpicking that involves somehow telepathicaly knowing some ones true inner, obviously slavophobic, meanings behind other wise innocent looking words or phrases :)
Its like a sort of boring 2nd year uni student mentality, theyve been given the key to all knowladge, everyone else is a shmuck ......
and I mean on PF not in real life :)
