Hometown / Vacation pictures Poland

I think it would be nice to see some pictures of your hometown, people lifestyles in Poland or from vacation/holidays.

Wow, quite impressive. You don't get to see so old and nice buildings in the US...

I know. It's crazy to imagine that when a lot of the old town structures in PL were built we just had indians and tee-pee's here. I was blown away by the arcitecture. I have more to post soon. I hope that others will add. it's quite amazing if you've never been there.

Same building in warsaw. I think its the Palace of Culture ... can someone verify this? It was the first thing I saw getting out of the train station. I didn't spend much time there though. I was mostly in Poznan and Krakow.

Don't even tell me. I was in Poland a few years ago (I'm Polish living in the US) and miss it again. I haven't made plans where to go this year - maybe I'll go to Poland again .

It's a nice building but I think most Poles want to get rid of it -- since it was built as a "gift" from the USSR government... Some say it doesn't fit the current modern infrastructure.

It's also different for you because you live there. For us it's very visually stimulating. The building in warsaw doesn't appear to be too old but I've experienced seeing Churches built in the 900's. That's amazing for someone from a country that's so young.
You have to realize that we have NO culture here.

Seeing things like this isn't too common:

Warsaw is actually only 50 years old - cose it has been destroyed in 75% during WWII the Germans have dynamited it out of revenge.

Soviet architecture - and when we`re speaking about the Palace of Culture and Science - has been actually modeled after the skyscraper architecture in New York and Chicago and the Polish architecture that you can see in i.e. in Krakow btw.

untill the 70s the PKIN was the second tallest building in Europe.

..the building is also quite an innovative construction for its times, cose a large part of it is build out of ceramics.

Today - as you have seen the area around the PKIN is a total mess. but that is going to change in the near future.

I`ve got a good source of various original historic-and non historic photos of various places in Poland - as well as the visualizations of projects that show how everything is going to look like in a few years. When I`m going to have more time I`m going to show it to you.

I'm a Warsawer and I must say I don't mind the PofC being there - and I don't think too many of my townsfolk do. Anyway, it's going to be literally overshadowed by taller modern buildings all around it soon.

btw. I see that you`ve been in Poznan before the renovation. I can not look at historic buildings that are being devastated this way - there is no place for satelite dishes on houses like those and those colors are horrible.

Actually I haven't. That picture was taken by someone else. I have some Poznan pics but they're on a different PC. I'll get them on disc.

probably before september last year - though it looks much older.

Yep, that's the main reason I go to Poland actually - it's sooo good not to see the sky scrapers in Chicago .

I had no idea that PL had desert land.

It`s really nothing.

I do have to say that the pyramids are interesting looking. Are they masonic pyramids?

It`s not far from Krakow - it`s the Bledowska Desert - it`s a kind of desert in which you wouldn`t die out of dehydration cose after a few hours of walk you`d find a green area. Beside the deasert is constantly shrinking - previously it had been much bigger.

I'm surprised they haven't been devastated yet (hopefully they are on a private property or guarded from the vandals)

btw. I asume that you were in Krakow and you`ve visited Wieliczka ?
