Horse Meat - popular in Poland?

Horse meat is eaten in some countries.
In other places in is frowned upon.

I once read somewhere that the flesh of the horse is not popular in Poland.
Everything I have seen on this forum suggest otherwise.
Your opinions please.

I've eaten quite a few of these. It never occurred to me to read the ingredients list.
It wouldn't have changed my mind about them though.

it is popular in belgium. i tried it once, its just like steak.

horse milk is disgusting though.

kabanos is made of pork, and also beef, lamb, and horse...

Hmm...maybe...i tried snails though, ever tried ? Haha !

Well, milk from cows and goats is fine - include sheep in that list definately for cheese-making.
Horse, Camel (see Mauritian Cheese)...
You'd really have to try it first (or ask someone who has - get a second opinion maybe).

However, one of the first things I ever learnt in Polish was something fairly disgusting about billy goats.

LoL i tried only once, when i was a child, it was good, but don't know if i'd try again...just weird, and i'm not a big fan of sea food (except for fish)

Snails are eaten in France, Spain, probably vast swathes of the rest of the world.
They're definately not big in the UK.
How about in Poland?

Goats are one of the coolest animals in the world. Don't get me wrong!

i havent seen any snails being eaten here in krakow, and this place (krakow) has a few frenchy cafe's. BUT!!!! i have been to some chinese resturants where you can buy frogs legs, which i loved! when you cook them their legs squat which turned me off them.

About France, eating snails is more a stereotype than a reality, like frogs legs...cause a lot of French people are disgusted by the idea of eating them :P But foreigners like asking "did you like snail/frogs legs ?" ;)

It was after the WWII when people were eating horsemeat. some say it was not so bad.

Why people eat other lovely, intelligent, useful, and above all cute animals and not horses for some of those reasons, is a mystery to me.

Oxen - powerful, mighty beast!
Pigs are certainly very clever.
Sheep - like little clouds all over the hillsides.
Goats - they share a similar wily nature to many human beings.
Donkeys, well, they're megacute.

I remember when I was a child my neighbour used to breed nutria (correct me if im wrong but i think the name is the same in Polish and English) I dont know what he did with them, how he prepared/ate them.
For me they looked horrible, like very big rats.
I've never eaten meat from nutria but would like to try.
Maybe someone else have? what does it taste like?

Yes, but I've tasted better.
Epoisses is good for a powerful cheese, but for washed rind I prefer Ardrahan.

i found a great shop which sells german version of cheddar cheese, it so blooming expensive here i almost fainted when i looked at the price:)

Haven't tried it myself, but knew a Cajun that used to swear by it and say its good. Apparently they run rampant in the bayou of Louisiana and are easy food there.

Horse meat is not eaten by the majority of Poles, but they do however butcher them if the horse is old and feed it to the dogs, since horse meat is cheaper than cow meat per pound. Lot of horses end up on the French tables.
Here in the US it is also frowned upon and it gets exported to Canada, where it's considered a delicacy by the French Canadians there.

I think Italy is/was the bigger importer of Polish horses for meat, so they don't get butchered or eaten here too much, but they end up on tables anyway
