So i bought the Polish game "Wiedźmin" to learn Polish.

Is this a good way of learning Polish? It's a game with a polish author, it has polish text and dialog. But the game has no English but i have dictionary.
What do you think? Is this a good way to learn?

I think most people play these games automatically. They don't think about the language when they are playing, but over time they do learn it.

It seems to be a very good game, it's in the top 10s of many countries (France, USA, etc.)...There is an English version porta...but maybe you wanted to have the Polish version to improve your Polis skills.....it may be good for you, good luck ;)

I did get the Boxset with soundtrack and DVD :)

And i bought the game in Polish to learn the language, i do understand about 50% of what is being said in the game, i thing looking at and hearing the dialogue in the game will help me understand more the composition of sentences. And it helps me also to understand spoken Polish cause this is my biggest problem :)

The box set has a lot of extras. I think you will be able to learn from it.

But I have to be honest. I've never played it. I just watch when someone else is playing.

It's not just another game ,this has a very good story.

There would be more blood in the room than there is in the game, if I even thought about it. I did watch the TV series, which was good. In reality I'm not keen on computer games.

I read the first book, "The Last Wish", i'm waiting for the next one to be translated and launched on next January.

I was thinking of buying this game for my boyfriend for Christmas (he is Polish) - he was really adicted to baldersgate - so this can be another obsession for him :)

From this trailer I'm guessing the game must be realy good.
But still, go and read The book series about Wiedzmin!

I don't normally play computer games, but from the trailer and from what I heard from friends who have it, it seems like a really good one.
Still, for those who think of buying it as a present, do check PC requirements first and make sure that the person who receives the gift has a computer that meets them. One of my friends had to seriously upgrade his PC to be able to play it ;)

I am planning on reading the books, but they need to translate the next ones into english quicker! My BF has read the whole series in Polish and agrees with you that the books were excellent.

I'm thinking of getting that game. The trailer looked really good and I'm even thinking of getting the polish version too.

thing is that translations in fantasy games are rarely directly from one language to another, a lot of stuff has to be changed in order to make it understandable and make sense in the other language, you cant just take a dictionary and translate a piece of fantasy book cuz it will be gibberish... im not shure if its best way to learn Polish, certainly a start but id rather get one of those cd courses, a book or sign up for a life course if Id want to learn a second language good enough to communicate, it took me quite a while to learn English, but now when i think about it than yea first pc games in english [especjally fantasy type games since other usually dont have much text in them to read/hear] and than english book and online games [that last one is the "final stage" of fun learning] in with you actually communicate via texting and sometimes talking with other people in that language. I hope I didnt get you bored out of your mind by this or confuzed, playing games in other language as a help in learning foregin language helps a lot but used as a only way to learn it, it wont sucee [my english still sucks sometimes...] id get one of those language cds and a dictionary and than after a while you should start understanding more of it. and last but not least, dont dig to deep in polish gramma, its so wicked even most polish dont use it properly...

Oh ,i have not started learning with this game ,that would make no sense.
This is just a way of understanding more of how the language is being put together.
I must also add that movies and games is how i learned English ,so why not Polish also. :)

well, i gota tell ya, i thought i learned english pretty well by doing same untill i went to us to live and work and reality confronted me there... still its not a bad way to catch some words and phrases, also keep in mind that games like those dont use the language used in everyday life, when you go to a store to buy a coke and pack of chips knowing all the medieval arsenal in that language wont help much ;] .

Oh ,but not to worry ,i know how to buy things in shops, order taxi and practical things like this :)

I have tried Amazon. I would like to get the books in Polish and English... Still looking!

For Polish id check allegro.pl or just tipical ebay [youd be suprized what kinda stuff you can find there sometimes...], for US, as far as I heard only the first book got translated [rest is work in progress], also ebay ;] , or barns & nobles, depends on country your from/at.

Thanks Maat... I have been poking around online and have found some stuff. I can get the first book in the UK and US later this year. I will keep digging!
