WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO TO BE ABLE TO INVOICE PEOPLE/COMPANIES?

Am a teacher who is now getting requests for lessons from companies. However, in order for them to pay me, so that the money goes through their books, I need to be able to invoice them. A few questions regarding this:

- do I have to register myself as self-employed to be able to do this?
- if so, how do I do this?
- are there any fixed expenses in doing so?
- I have a normal contract as an employee with a company: would there be any conflict by registering as self-emloyed? And, would I be taxed quite punitively because of this?
- how would paying tax on this income work in general?

Thanks for any help/advice you can give.

Krzysztof, I would like to get in touch with you if possible. I can't e-mail you as I am new to the site and have to have made four posts before I can do so. If you have time, maybe you can contact me, or just to reply to this post?

- do I have to register myself as self-employed to be able to do this?
A) yes you do

- if so, how do I do this?
A) The best way is to get a Polish friend to help you, you will need a NIP number

- are there any fixed expenses in doing so?
A) To register your business I believe I paid 100zl, but I am not certain of this.

- I have a normal contract as an employee with a company: would there be any conflict by registering as self-employed?
A) Yes there would be as you are self-employed and the contract would have to be rewritten.

- how would paying tax on this income work in general?
A) You will pay a percentage of your income each month and you would be in control of this, the best way that I have found is to find an accountant where you present your invoices to them each month and they will work it out for you, I only pay 50zl each month so it is a low cost really.

If you go self-employed here, there is a offer on at the moment where you only pay 50% of your zus (National Insurance) contributions for the 1st two years. And then you will be automatically covered for health care along with claiming a lot of tax back for expenses.

Sorry this is very quick info as I do not have a lot of time at the moment, I will post more info when I am have more time but you could take a look at this site and browse through it to find some help URL

A search this site would help as well because it has been discussed at some level :O)

Great, cheers for that info. Just had a quick look before entering the classroom for another day. Just another quick question: do you think it's worth going through all that or, by the time everything's paid, you're not much better off than working with a couple of standard employer-employee contracts?

You are a lot better off as you can claim expenses and your Zus payments will be halved for the 1st two years.

On average, I save 300-400zl per month, through my accountant.

Don't forget you can claim many things, internet, books, travel, etc

And the best thing is that it will be cheaper for your employer as well, as they will not have to pay Zus for you.
