If The Polish Language Is Too Hard >>> Sing Instead

When I was young, which I still am, I was in a Polish folklore dance group and we had an Irish girl join our group. Now she didn't know how to speak Polish, but she did pick up singing in Polish. If you've got a good ear for music...............learn to sing in Polish first and impress people at Polish occasions......lol. It's fun and educational at the same time.

Yes, that's a good advice. Same with other languages.

It's true. You should hear my 2 year old sing along to her Polish CD's. Not sure what most of the songs are about but we can both sing the words.

I am currently studying Polish and while I haven't found it to be difficult yet, I am always looking for other ways to help with learning. Does anyone have any suggestions on cd's to pick up?

Well I like the band Kult but they are an acquired taste so to speak, but one of the things I like about their music is they pronounce words very clearly...

i can sing along to most kasia kowalska songs as i have 7 albums of hers ... i also have edyta gorniak and then i have a folder of various other polish artists on my pc of music .. get my polsat system installed soon so should be learning more when that is done!

Well reading that just cost me 75 bucks! I found some of her stuff on YouTube and liked it, so in a week or so her 5 CD set should arrive :-)

How about a legend of Poland's music scene, Marek Grechuta. His songs, while certainly not mainstream, are easy on the ear and may be great for those learning Polish. Phrases from some of his songs are popular in everyday Polish language, selection of vocabulary is reasonable and very much usable in every day speech:

I just listened to a couple jingles by him. Lyrics sound reasonably usable for learning purposes.

How about Grzegorz Turnau - its not usually my style of music, but i saw him in concert at Lake Wigry in North-East Poland and his music is beautiful. Apparently his lyrics are good too, but my Polish is not good enough to understand the meanings of the lyrics.

Turnau is not my style either, but from the few songs I just heard, he sound pretty clear. The the lyrics I heard are OK but too... lyrical for every day speech. It is till useful, even if only for the benefit of getting some of those words stuck in your mind.

I'd like to stress though, that what I'm saying here is just my personal take, not some kind of science. I used to listen to and memorize songs when I was taking my first steps in English.

For me the song had to have an easy melody line so I could sing it along, or on my own. The lyrics, well, that was a toss because at the time the Internet was not available to the public so I couldn't have known what songs meant untill I translated them myself based only on sounds (I scratched a few LPs in the process). That was quite mundane and hard, especially when I tried Bob Dylan :)

I loveee Polish music....Doda, Łzy, Ewelina Flinta, Maciek Silski, Paweł Kukiz, Gosia Andrzejewicz, Mezo etc etc etc

I find it so much easier to sing in Polish than speak it, I even learned to rap in Polish=)

LOL... I'm a native speaker of English and I can't even understand him most of the time.

What about children's music? Is there anything for the alphabet for example. I spoke to a Polish friend of mine and she said they had Sesame Street in Poland. I wonder what kind of songs they use.
