Monday, May 21 BBC News
Doctors go on strike. Only emergency services are being provided. Doctors are pushing for privatization of helathcare, and want to charge small fees for some services. General practitioners make about 400.00 per month. Jaroslaw Kacnyski says there will be no pay increases for doctors this year/he said he makes less than his western counterparts, too.....but he isn't complaining.

A Polish man has woken up from a 19-year coma, Polish TV reports.

Railway worker Jan Grzebski, 65, fell into a coma after he was hit by a train in 1988.

"Now I see people on the streets with mobile phones and there are so many goods in the shops it makes my head spin," he told Polish television.

"It was Gertruda that saved me, and I'll never forget it," Grzebski told news channel TVN24 of his recovery, referring to his caring wife.

Mrs Grzebski is reported to have moved her husband every hour to prevent bed sores.

"I cried a lot, and I prayed a lot," she said on Polsat television.

And he says he has nothing to complain about...

Wow! Talk about culture shock.
This guy should write a book contrasting the changes. That would be a fascinating read!

tea and vinegar in the shops

Something does not add up here. I went to Poland in 1989 first time after being in USA for 9 years. The stores were nicely stocked up already. I know about "tea and vinegar" times from my family, it was in early 80's and during marshal law. I was sending money and many packages to help them out at that dreadful times.

Overall political chaos. Health system is in chaos. Administration and law shares its bit as well. Social relations are plunging in chaos. Time of woodpecker mating will soon cause chaos in forests. The possible causes are The Grey Web, 'wykszta³ciuchy', Jews, masons, disobedient journalists and cyclists.

DOOM AND GLOOM, is that's all you see? Positive thinking to the rescue, please see the good too. You could view in the same light just about any country.
Some people love to see 'merica' this way... :)

Man in Poland Wakes from Coma after 19 Years

Truly amazing article.....shows just how strong the human spirit can be and how one can view life with a positive attitude.....maybe we all should be grateful for the good in our lives and not dwell on everything that is wrong in the world.

According to the same story in The Independent, its all about a man's astonishment at how much his fellow countrymen moan despite having it so good...

Quoting: Thomas Sutcliffe
The story of Poland's real-life Rip van Winkle, who fell into a coma after being hit by a train in 1988 and has now woken to an utterly changed world, has largely been played in the press as a fable of mild reproof. Jan Grzebski expressed his astonishment at the cornucopia of goods in the local shops and his bemusement that his fellow citizens could still find it in them to complain.

"What amazes me," he said, "is all these people who walk around with their mobile phones and yet they never stop moaning."

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying to ignore the plight of the world, but I believe the world would be a better place if everyone practice a little gratitude each and everyday.....I'm a firm believer that positive attracts positive and negative attracts negative. What we expect from life, we tend to get, at least that has been my experience. :) Good to see, BW....;)

Exactly.....even if it is something as simple as having internet connection.....there's always things to be grateful for......I can think of a few things of recent past that I'm extremely grateful for ;)

I know what you mean....23 years ago this month, my father had enough morphine in him to knock a horse out, and he was completely awake and alert. Didn't want to leave this world until he knew his family would be ok.....God rest his soul.....he would have been 74 years old yesterday! Makes me smile knowing what a great father and mother I had.....they both instilled a lot of good things in me. :) (the deviance I picked up on my own ;) mwahahahaha )
