I saw this on the Uk news as well, very interesting his reaction on how things had changed.

Just goes to show how we take too much for granted these days.

What`s on news about Serbia, these days in Poland? Kosovo issue? Echos of Civil War that happened? Hague? Ratko Mladię and Radovan Karad¾ię?

Anyone can tell? Tell me brohers and sisters, sons and doughters of Poland- what official Poland say about `well known` bad guys from Balkan?

Tell me, no matter how are bad news, I am ready and cool, beer and potato chips are near me.

Is there any good news? Except, Eurovision and Molitva, of course.

crow - you will not intentionally hijack this thread to become a slavic thread. this post is fine but anymore about slavia will be ,oved to the slavic thread

Work on the EU Constitution continues to stall.

EU German presidency to come up with a time table in hopes of getting it rolling again, in order to have it adopted by mid-2009.

For all of you Black metal heads \nn/

(Ryszard Nowak) All-Polish Committee for Defence against Sects has compiled a list of artists who allegedly "promote Satanism" through their music. The list, which will be distributed to various Polish officials in July, will likely result in the artists becoming registered and getting banned from performing in Poland.

BEHEMOTH (PL)
KAT (PL)
MARILYN MANSON

"The index will not only contain metal bands, but also rock artists," Nowak explained, before adding that the list will include any groups who promote Satanism or encourage murder and animal sacrifice.

"We don't want it to fall into the youths' hands as they could copy the practices we are describing there"

BEHEMOTH frontman Nergal:
"there are enough serious matters to be dealt with in Poland! The authorities would be better off spending their time on things that really need to be improved and taken care of."

Some years ago a concert by Black Sabbath was banned because they were deemed to be satanists. Because of contracts the concert was moved to an open-air area near the zoo. While the band where playing a camel gave birth, but the youngster died. They say it was because of the shock from the loud music. Sad but true.
As for Marilyn Manson.... my wife is going to see him next week in Berlin. For us in Wroclaw and Poznan it is easier to get to Berlin than Warsaw or Krakow. Also, if you live in Wroclaw, Prague is just down the road, closer and easier to get to than Warsaw.
So, the 'committee' can ban whoever they like. It won't stop me or anyone else in the west of Poland from seeing who we want. However, it does show how much revenue Polish companies, concert halls are giving away, if they don't fight these idiots.

Oh! and another thing. Behemoth are Polish. Clever move trying to drive them out of their own country.

Some news makes me angry and this is top of my list today.

Its a strange situation really because Poland produces some very big death metal bands. Decapitated and Vader are at the moment 2 of the biggest bands from this genre, but because of some peoples ideas they are allowed to play many shows in Poland. However Vital Remains(an amazingly talented group of musicians) headlined a festival a few months ago in katowice or Wroclaw i think. This is a band of self confessed satanists and-although i dont agree with their beliefs- they are given the chance to perform here.
I noticed in Torun 2 weeks ago an old lady scratching of a poster advertising a metal concert in the town. I understood everything that was written on this poster and there was nothing offensive. Old people here really listen to what the church tells them and of course believe it.Peopledont eat babies at these shows(which one student at my school was told by her public school RE teacher) it is a place for people to let of steam and express themselves(maybe this is what scares certain memebers of religions). Its a shame that people are not allowed to express themselves through music and most of these bands i.e Marylin Manson are just using the satanist thing to sell records. They should learn to relax a bit because by pushing these bands underground they will cause more of a problem with the people who follow this music.

Kaczynscy - they will do what they want....unfortunately for them past is more important than future...in wich other democratic country president and prime minister are brothers?...changing street names it's really necessairly and it dosen't meeter how much it will cost-Poland is such a rich country!!!..hahhaha:((((...it means that someone can earn a lot on it....
Kaczynscy-they don't care about people opinion and about people at all....I'm wondering if they at least respect them....for sure they don't give a shxx about emigrants..I hope that they will leave street names and monuments as they are now....

Yes. Tons of money. You'd think that Poland's people should be able to make decisions for themselves nowadays.

There is a nice story in the UK press this morning about Aleksander Kudajcsyk, 28, from Katowice. He is a talented pianist who had studied at one of Poland’s finest music academies. He came to the Uk 6 months ago to earn some money and got a job as a cleaner at the law department of Glasgow University. One day he asked his supervisors if it would be OK for him to play an old and precious Grand Piano. After a bit of hesitation they said Ok and he sat down to play. Unbeknown to him, the supervisors were watching him on a web cam. As soon as he started to play they were amazed and phoned some other people at the University to watch him. As a result he is no longer cleaning and has played numerous concerts, including a performance at Glasgow’s West End festival. Nice story that has echoes of the film Good Will Hunting. Best of luck to him and I look forward to the first performance at the Royal Albert Hall.

Topic attached on merging:
Polish cleaner discovered to be brilliant concert pianist

When university cleaner Aleksander Kudajczyk put down his mop to have a tinkle on a grand piano he thought no one would hear him.

Had he known of the camera in the corner of the room he would never have touched the instrument - and his virtuoso talent would have remained undiscovered.

But in a story which echoes the plot of the film Good Will Hunting he has graduated from lowly cleaner to concert pianist after a spellbinding performance of Chopin compositions played to an empty room.

I'm Sorry Daisy. I was making a cynical joke because I wouldn't be surprised either if they fired him. I have no idea what happened to him but I pray he's not cleaning toilets.

The United Nations has accepted Poland's request to rename the Auschwitz death camp on its list of World Heritage sites to make clear it was run by Germans not Poles, the Polish government announced on Wednesday.

From the Warsaw Voice....
Apparently, it's a crime to insult the President in Poland......Half our nation would be in jail, if that were the case here.

Fr. Rydzyk calls President a "fraudster" and first lady a "witch"
Warsaw, Poland July 10, 2007

Influential and controversial priest Fr. Tadeusz Rydzyk, who runs the Radio Maryja radio network, branded President Lech Kaczynski a "fraudster" who is in the pocket of the "Jewish lobby" and described Poland's first lady as a "witch" according to the respected newsweekly Wprost.

The Simon Wiesenthal Center is asking that Rev. Tadeusz Rydzyk is punnished for making anti-semetic remark caliming that Lech Kaczynski is “is in the pockets of the Jewish lobby.” also "You know what this is about: Poland giving $65 billion” to Jews, Father Rydzyk said on the tape, according to the newsmagazine. “They will come to you and say, ‘Give me your coat! Take off your trousers! Give me your shoes!’ ”

Father Rydzyk is also quoted calling Mr. Kaczynski a liar and calling his wife a “witch” because of her support for some abortion rights. “If you want to kill people, do it to yourself first,” he is reported to say on the tape.

I was under the impression that Lech was a big fan of Radio Maryja, but it appears that maybe there's now a bit of conflict between the two. Leach stated that if the tapes are genuine than there will be consequences.

I found this in the NY Times.

Poland's international relations....and:

"..... looking beyond the political turmoil - Poland is actually making a successful transition into modern Europe. Economic growth is currently over 7 per cent a year. EU money is flooding into Poland. Hundreds of thousands of young Poles are working in western Europe. Opinion surveys show that Poland's rising generation is much more socially liberal and much less xenophobic than an older generation scarred by the tragedies of Polish history in the 20th century".

"Poland is going through a difficult transition under a particularly difficult government. But its reintegration into Europe still looks like it will have a happy ending".

President Kaczynski is coming to California to present Poland's highest distinction (the Order of the White Eagle) to Nancy Reagan, widow of former President Ronald Reagan, in recognition of his role in the downfall of communism in Europe.

From this week's new warsaw Express. Nice to see your trains are about as good as ours!

Superlemon
A PLN 15 million “supertrain” just purchased
by the Polish State Railways got
bogged down on the £ódŸ-Warsaw route
it services on Tuesday. After getting to the
small town of Maków, it stopped dead in
its tracks for an hour and a half, it’s stateof-
the-art electronics completely dead,
and even the loos out of commission.
Only after technicians sent in by the
train’s producer were sent in did they discover
that the failure was caused by a passenger
opening a door to get out at the
stop. Interestingly, because of the poor
state of the tracks on the route, today’s
“supertrain” covers the distance between
the two cities in twice the time it took a
train in the 1930s.

Fancy a passenger wanting to get off.

Oh and they also point out the terminal 2 at Warsaw airport is delayed again. Mind you it's still quicker than Heathrow's or San Francisco's expansion/rebuilds.!
