This would be good. I was in Poznan for the last election and everyone was pissed off....mostly the young people. I'd imagine that the PO would be more focused on one of the real issues that PL faces such as creating more jobs so all of the youth doesn't have to leave.

Heh I live in Posnan too, PO always wins in elections (parlametnary, presidental, local), this town has 150% of average GDP of EU, average for Gremany is for exmple 100%. So it is richer than a lot of places in "old EU" . Unenplyment is about 4,5 %. And Posnan is one big construction ...

This town has just profesional local leaders (coming mostly form PO)

But there is eastern Poland too (I come form there) and people in those small vilages, are rather supporting PiS, because they have lost in the proces of transformation ... so we will see ...

But I think that, till today PO has been rather callm and even this has been leading in most focuses. Today started perfectly, PiS havent shown nothing new. So thinks looks good.

I heard this too. But, one thing that confuses me is that I hear most of these same people would rather live under communism. If the PiS party is all about rtemoving anythig communist, then why are these the people that are voting PiS? Was I just ill informed about the communism bit?

Definetely Komorwski (PO) he just smashed Kaczynski's "Pit bull" Kurski. Tusk (PO) was quite good. From the others Kuchcinski (PiS) was telling the old speach of PiS ...

PiS is trying to show themselfs as conervative party fighting with comunists, coruption. Playing hard with EU, and taking care about poor people ...

Lukasz,

There was a lot of laughter in this house during some of the speeches, as they ripped into eachother. Best speech....Pawlak.

I think Tusk waits for his moment then strikes hard. He has been very quiet until recently.

Pawlak has his electorate (rich farmers) and his aim is to take 5 % to be still in parlament. So his strategy of showing himsefl as a calm, and ready to cooperate looks logicaly. I think that he would be good ally of PO ( much better than SLD) in next parlament.

But we will see in the nearest time how thinks are going, because everything changes every minute now.

Not as far as the bookmakers are concerned! I have even heard of a million PZL bet being placed on PiS. Maybe you fancy a punt Luke. I can offer you 5/2 on PO

Open All Hours

Lodz police arrested a 65-year-old shopkeeper
for selling drugs in her "Everything for four
zloty" shop. The woman – who said she only
sold amphetamines to friends to make some
extra pin money – faces up to eight years in
prison. The woman's two grandsons, 21 and
24, were also taken into custody on suspicion
of possession of illegal drugs.

Hmm - I wonder what else you can get for four zloty there? thermonuclear devices? Premiership footballers?

Polish Election: Twin leaders, twin identity
watch listen

By RTÉ Europe Correspondent Tony Connelly in Poland

Poland's general election is being billed as a struggle between two competing versions of the country's true identity. In one corner, the right wing, conservative Law and Justice Party. In the other, Civic Platform, pro-business, liberal and outward looking.
