Yes, and apparently you can't say that enough times either...

You do seem to be quite condescending towards Indians though..more than "just" curosity i'd say..what gives?

the call centre comment was a joke...most of the companies in australia have outsourced their call centres to india.

i was just curious, as i said, i asked my friend and she was miffed. i live in australia, why would i be fussed if indians move to poland.

Nah, cheaper labour in india i think. it actually creates more problems, took me 6 months after cancelling a credit card to stop receiving paper statements telling me i had a nil balance.

instead of larrikins you could of used yobs or cobbers.

Hello there,

I think that talk was done a while ago, or maybe my mind is just playing "Tricz" on me

Nope, spent no time in austrailia, but I guess my point was, stereotypes are everywhere and for everyone..

My husband and I have been living in the US for sometime now, and we're not from India, so I wouldnt know how the call center thing works, probably a combination of hard work and tolerance. More work, less complaining- pretty much an unknown phenomena in the West..

I guess we've totally gone off track here, its time for me to zoom off and start another thread..these forums reminds me of Chinese whispers..starts with one thing and end in something totally different!

you could have a more up to date stereotype, hoges is 80's vintage.

whingeing is inherently human and i have come across complainers regardless of nationality through many jobs.

i think it comes down to the fact that in australia there is penalty rates, sick leave, annual leave and long service leave that have to be paid to staff. that coupled with the rent of a space for the call centre may make it unattractive to be based in india. much like clothes companies get stuff made in china more so than more work and less complaining.

comes down to overheads.

but yes, we have digressed, sorry for the digression.

*laughs* True that! I suppose I was trying to steer clear of making a "Crocs dig", out of respect, for the Late Steve Irvin..

Some what agree. I do believe there are some counteries/cultures where life is hard and people become accustomed to that way of life, where one might see them toiling on, bereft of even the basic necessity, and yet not complain. They make do with what they have.
While in the West, one would moan relentlessly if it were to rain 2 days in a row-such tragedy that the beach day got ruined!

I think what you're saying about the system in Australia and the system in India points out to what i'm saying. It comes down to people, knowing their options, having needs and priorities. In the latter country, there are higher needs, few options which thus, leads to greater acceptance and less resistance.

Regards digressing, no need to apologize, my next sensational thread of "Do all supermarkets in WAW, carry items labelled in Polish" can wait..

Guys,
Any information about Indian restaurants in Gdansk/Gdynia?

Yes, am happy to see so many fans for Indian food...

My allure to come to Poland is because I had to come here on an assignment and I would be here until about June or July this year. And in Poland, I like the beers, vodka and people who are generally friendly.

Dear Iman or chote as we say in the land of the Nawabs,
You will find everything you need to cook a decent biryiani, nahri, chakna, sambar and kebab in warsaw, krakow, katowice, lodz, gdansk or any part of poland. Mera bharat mahaan. Indians are there in every part of this great country. The general experience of life in Poland among desis here is one of fun, joy and contentment. You will find all the spices you need, fatafat, dabur, kothmir, hari mirch, parachut, adrak laisan a-plenty . All polish cities are full of Indian students, IT professionals, BPO work-horses and traders and merchants.
And regarding work, basic polish(spoken and read) is recommended if you are looking for a entry level job in any polish city. Most students here speak and understand basic English as English is a subject at everyone,s Matura (Intermediate) level here at school.
English teaching jobs are reserved mostly for native English speakers. professionals in IT ( specially programmers, SAP,Java) are in demand in here. those with an IT/ITES/BPO background stand a good chance of landing a job in Warsaw, Krakow, Wroclaw , Lodz etc.
P.S>>POLISH PEOPLE IN GENERAL ARE VERY HOSPITABLE AND YOU WILL FIND YOURSELF WELCOME IN EVERY POLISH TOWN/CITY. THIS IS A VERY BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY WITH BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE. IF YO U ARE LOOKING FOR A JOB, THE POLISH MARKET IS A LEVEL PLAYING FIELD. ONLY MERIT IS THE CRITERIA HERE.
So, if you have any more enquiries, please ask them here. I will be very glad to answer it for you.
Thanks and wishing you a great time in Poland

Nawab says,
Dear Preet, the reason most shops that sell asian groceries are called INDIAN SHOPS is because INDIA represents globally all things that represent the sub-continent ( India, pakistan, bangladesh, sri lanka ). These nations and their people are basically of Indian origin and as such even though they are now independent, their lifestyle is the same or a slight variation of the lifestyle and culture of mainland India. Thirdly, since Indians outnumber most of the other sub-continent nationalities in most western cities, shopkeepers name their shops as INDIAN to attract this huge community primarily.
(My eyes feast on Elizabeth Taylor as Cleopatra, My mouth feats on one global voice, My ears feast on Sare Jahaan se accha and My nose feasts on the nearest Indian grocery !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Hmm so I went to Namaste and I must say I was unimpressed. I lived in India off and on for the past 8 years. Nice people and atmosphere but the food was subpar unfortunately and I was a bit put off by the plastic forks and so forth. I would say the Vega at Kino Femina is far better quality and value. Just my two cents, no offense to the Namaste people. I met some Punjabis and had a nice chat. But of course it could just be taste. For me there was no taste and for my polish friend it was too spicy. At Vega you can get a full meal for the price of jeera rice at Namaste.

The Asian House has branches in ul. Poznańska and in Galeria Mokotów. I know that they have two other branches, just can't remember the addresses, but they have leaflets in the store with all the addresses of the four branches.

Hope you enjoy it here. We're from South Africa and we really have so far.

Hey Zara,
Lol@ your indian-store-in-poland-looking-up person! It was much easier to ask here than perhaps wear a sign of it on the streets, although desperation might have resorted me to doing just that ;)

-Have to say, the people here on this forum are great and very helpful!A big shout out of "thank you" to all of you!

Regarding your other question, my religion is the religion I formerly call "Islam". As in, i'm muslim, but do not recognize what this religion has been made into today, a complete mockery, in the hands of some ppl that have truly disgraced it!
I actually respect the religion of every nation, as the basics of all relgion has the common traits of tolerance, respect, morality and acceptance.

Presently I'm in Warsaw and find it to be wonderfully historic with some beautiful churches and parks. So if ever you're, here do come visit, maybe we will start a venture together :)

Poly, I agree with you. Also, I think, religion should always be a private thing whether someone believes in it or not. I also agree that for each individual, religion means different things. It is much more important to be a good person, whether those values are inculcated from one's family, friends, school, other cultures or religion, is secondary.

lol,the reson I asked
When you greet a person in south asia, your greeting depends on ther eligion I think?
(Ok,now I'm about to embarrass myself with bad spellings)
In hindu districts o with hindu's,you use Namaste, in Pakistan or Muslim districts of India you use Salaam and in the punjab and other Sikh reigeons you use Saasriakal (Bad spelling,i warned you.)
So if I was to greet iman speaking in either one of the three languages, I would use one of the above greetings depending on Religious background (I THINK, It's what mum always told me.)
