You should goto St Petersburg.
Its a Wonderful place.
The Architecture is stunning. Especially the monument. And the palace.

The people are warm and friendly.
And not at all like you see on Tv.
Of course there are a few odd characters. But no different than any other country.

I had a holiday there. And loved every minite of it.

Hopefully end of this year...

I have no preconceived ideas about the people since I have never met a Russian...The architecture is one of the main reasons that made me chose St. Petersburg :)

It certainly is not Polish character. Building a multi cultural state by conquest, oppression, intimidation fear and plain aggression, I hardly call this an achievement but it is in a true Russian character.

And who was oppressed? If so, why they still live together with russians?

The question is Do they have a choice?
How about Russians themselves etc. Stop deluding yourself trouble spots are all over southern Russia. The only way for you to keep harmony and so called peaceful coexistence in the regions is to send the army.

I am saying here not about sombody but about national character as whole.

Is there a "national" character beyond the combined characters of a nation's constituents? If you don't know any Poles, you can't hope to grasp the "Polish national character". Or are we to judge Russians by the atrocities they committed under Lenin, Stalin, Brezhnev - not to mention Putin and the tsars?

Are you joking? Where did you see arrogant or thouhtless Russian? We hardly were able to build such multy cutural state if we would have such character as Poles.

I would say arrogance is definitely part of empire-building (which is what your "multicultural society" was and is, in reality). Thoughtlessness - I wouldn't accuse either Poles or Russians of that. However, I think the rest of your characterizations definitely apply to the Russian state and its leaders at least over the last century or so.

As a people, they are pretty similar to us and I have no problems with them. It's the government that I don't like.

Dzien dobry, well, I'm Russian, and I have just started learning Polish. It was my dream for a few years cause I adore Anna German (singer, Poles seem to have forgotten her, she became famous in the USSR and died at the age of 40 after quite a tragic life). I just LOVE how Polish sounds. Then I appreciate much Polish cinema, "Sara" is my favourite movie and Boguslaw Linda is favourite actor. I never hated Poles, and it was a surprise for me to learn that they are "a bit hostile" to Russians. Not all, I hope. It is only a week ago that I was told about Katyn murder and I'm going to watch a film by A. Waida. Now at least I know WHY. But we do not hate Germans, even my grand-father who was a soldier during WWII...

Yes, there is - opinions like yours, for instance. What's your problem - first you admit you don't know any Poles, and then you insult someone because she likes them or even the sound of the language. How old are you? Twelve? Or are you collecting brownie points so they'll let you into Nashi?

Irina, enjoy the exploration of Polish culture and don't pay attention to some of the rough comments; Poles can be as pigheaded as Russians or people from any other nation for that matter.

To all others if one judged nations by their governments then imagine what they would think of Poland listening and reading about Mr. President Kaczynski and his brother, or about USA looking at Bush. Obviously all of them have supporters in their respective countries, does it mean they represent their nations accurately? Think about it.

You must be very new to this forum, hehe (but welcome!)
cause everyone here gets judged by their government! (not that we like it, or don't protest it vehemently)

Love.

Then, Slavdom has chance. That`s all what Slavs need

Thank you Poljski brate for your brave statement. I hope Russians of this world would understand your message :)

I think that we can agree that all Slavs count on part of Russian resources as on their own. We deserve that and expect fair (historical!) proposal from Russian side.

I would suggest that Russian parliament adopt declaration that all Slavic countries has beneficial approach to Siberian resources.

I stays open to talk about details with Russians here and to eventualy give wider explanation

Do Norwegians give Germans access to their oil resources just because they are both Germanic ?

But, Serbians already has beneficial access to Russian market and Siberian resources. Our economy greately benefit from declarations of Russian parliamant which supported our economic growth, rebuilding of our economy after NATO attack, our survivor during economic blockade and sanctions

It would be just that all Slavs have it because after all, our ancestors mutualy defended those resources from attack of hostile non-Slavs. Any defense of Slavic South (for example- from Turks) or West (from Germans) was in the same time defense of Russian Southern or Western borders.

From the beggining of time destine of Slavs was connected more or less, even no matter all differences or misunderstandings among them.

Even when Poles, Serbians, Bulgarians or Czechs... had problems with Russians, they, defending their children, defended Russian children in the same time. Of, course- it was feed back relationship thru history. When Russians were attacked from East (Mongol hordes) they were first line of Slavic defense.

So, it would be just that welth what generations of our ancestors mutualy defended, now, Slavs share among themselves. Let Slavs unite not only over emotional issues but also over common interests. I hope, Russians would have sensibility for this proposal and for importance of historic momentum. As i said, it is feed back relationship and all Slavs should give their contribution to common couse.

Slavija!

why you talk about Germans to me? or Germanics?

its completely different story

I would suggest to them that they return to Mother Slavija or simply to learn to live in peacefull coexistance with those who survived as Slavs. I wish luck to them

Yes, I agree that Russians arent vengeful at least against us, if there is any hate it is mostly from finnish side. But I claim St. Petersburger are only little different to us, even Helsinkis architechture is very similar to Pete´s town. Actually whole Baltic sea region is a bit similar: Finland,Poland,Estonia, Latvia, St.Petersburg. The trade routes, such as Hansa connected all the way to East of England and Holland. Thats why I dont feel myself so alien with British,Dutch or Polish than with Italians for example.

What I meant was that kinships between nations play no role in global economy. Russians sell their gas/oil to the highest bidder or for exchange for something else.

Trying to love" - sounds like it must be very hard)). I can't say I love, as I don't really know much about Polish culture, but I like already, it just happened. Honestly, what would have been hard for me to love at some definate time is German, and I thought I would better die that study German as second language when I was at the University, so I took up French. And it was all because of WWII can you imagine. Now this maximalism went by however. As I had no such a feeling towards Poles, so I see know problem here. Sorry to sound disgusting to you!
