Isn't Warsaw a Sh*thole?

Hi folks,

I live in Warsaw, and I really wish I didn't.

Can any of you tell me any positive things about this town? (aside from the relatively cheap beer)

I live in London - it's a sh*thole. Why not?

Well...it aint great in places.......it has a long way to go, to become a truly visitable place to put on your list of capitals to visit.

But Europe has lots of less than brilliant capitals, ie Bonn, before Germany was re-united; London indeed has lots of negative aspects, Brussels isnt too hot either, the list goes on.......

But we all have to remeber its was virtually destroyed 60 yrs ago, plus has been submerged in communism for 60 odd yrs too.......................give it time........it will improve!

I only hope his will happen within my lifetime.

As it is, I seriously think I would prefer to live Kingston-upon-Hull (voted as the most boring town in the UK) rather than in Warsaw.

LOL.............but boredom is in your mind.....lol........part of what really makes a city is the vibrancy of it population, ergo, it WILL take time for Polish peoples attitudes, way of doing things, views of life to change.

Being original, confident, selfish, cocky, brash, can't care less ways of thinking aren't natural Polish traits(?).

Again, giving it time, plus money, will make all the difference.

There was a time when the only thing Dublin was known for was its beer and pubs...NOTHING else!!!

But Ireland and the Irish, always had a different attitude to life.............ask Polish people who have gone their, there is a huge amount of irreverence, risk taking, live for today - not tomorrow! In Poland til recently, you knew tomorrow and every day after was going to be the same........again...and again......................just wait for the spark!!

You got to start somewhere -- to say Warsaw is a sh** hole -- I'd have to say u must be the asshole. Warsaw, is a beautiful city with good people --- and like any city it has it's bad points and good points. But I'll bet my bottom dollar the good out weighs the bad. Now that's a fact.

Try living in Boston. Boston has its good and bad.
The good: Great city on Sunday morning between 3-8 am. No trafficgreat sites, etc...

The Bad: The drivers are the worst in the world. No directionals, talking on the cell phone while driving, Driving in the left lane as it were the right lane. The right lane now is the fast lane here in Boston.

I love Warsaw. People drive to get there and do not take any Sh*t. Beautiful city. Love to hear my ancestors language.

I am actualy building a 800m2 home 10 kilometers outside of Warsaw. Just in case I do not like the next Presedential election. I hate the present administration. They are free to harrass every American or Immigrant.

They are trying to push the same "Freedom" on Iraq!!

So what would you say to that, sicko? I think you Polish folks shouldn't assume that he's English; he doesn't appear to be one. Hence no need to retaliate by insulting London, which is the prettiest and most exciting city in Europe to me. By the way, wasn't it some French diplomat who called Israel the sh...ttiest little hole in the Middle East, or something like that? Would anyone agree with the French guy's viewpoint?

I just got back from Warsaw, old town and new town are both beautiful with great little places to walk and eat. However, i will agree that many of the communist buildings are an eye sore. The new bridge is beautiful but had trouble finding a road to get to it, what is up with that?

I wouldn't be so down with Warsaw.

I live in London and have had 2 great weekends partying in Warsaw. Best nights our I've had in ages, way better than London. Admitedly the main positive for me with Warsaw is the Polish girls.

But really, a city is what you make of it.

I was in Warsaw, for the very first time in my life, in 2003. To be honest, I wasn't overly impressed at first. It felt too.. americanized, almost lacking it Polishness (that's a new word ). However... Lazienki, the Old Town, Wilanow.. I can't find words that would come even remotely close to how I felt!
But I know where AntiMono is coming from. I think, once you live in a place, no matter how spectacular, how breathtaking, how attractive.. you live it each day and it just becomes exactly that - an every day thing, and every day view..
Perhaps you should take a weekend and re-discover Warsaw?

hey! I liked Warsaw! It was the very first time I visit Poland ( march 2007) and I liked it! It's true it might have its communism marks but one could tell by the looks of the old city that the city was beautiful and to me it still is! Though, I really liked Krakow. There was something different about the atmosphere. Maybe that's it: people in Poland don't like the city of Warsaw enough? humm.... Believe in yourselves people! You can do it! You have so much to offer, so much to share, to tell! hahaha

I think that calling it a sh*t hole is a bit harsh.

The only bad thing I can say about Warsaw is that it's the only place where anybody has ever tried to mug me - but apart from that it's probably my favourite place to visit....

Just got back from there actually (unfortunately my trip was more business than pleasure) but I did get a chance to visit the Warsaw Uprising museum for the first time - which was an awesome experience!

Cheer up - there are plenty of worse places to live....

You always waste your time if you live in Cities, I lived in Warsaw, Berlin, Delhi, Ankara and I found all quite similar. Poland's beauty is its people if you could have tried countryside then nothing better than this. I still remember the pierogi which i ate in Warsaw and in Kostrzyn, they taste different. In short there is nothing to see if you dont really want to see.

Well Krakow was the old capital, I don't know why they changed it to Warsaw.....
