Is it possible to buy live yoghurt in Polish shops? What will it say on the label please?

Not sure if "natural" is live.

In the UK some pots say "natural" and others say "live", so I suspect it's not the same thing? What do I know? I only eat the stuff for the bacteria!

This reminds me of the 1950s and 60s vision of the future. Pass the bacofoil suit, I need my nutrition pills for the evening before going into some kind of floatation stasis...

then it will be "z żywymi kulturami bakteryjnymi" or "żywe kultury bakterii" or something like that (look for the words "żywe" = live, living and "bakterie" somewhere, in some grammatical form).
Unfortunatelly, I don't drink yoghurt (they use gelatin too often), but I'm almost sure that "naturalny" in Poland means, and no more no less, that it's not fruit taste.

And that Danone "Jogurt naturalny" you can see on a picture above is with powdered milk, yuck.

I drink/eat/have yoghurt or butter milk every day. I have tried different kinds and on all of them it is written they contain live cultures of bacteria.



Sorry for disappointing you but all kinds of youghurt or buttermilk contain powdered milk.
Why yuck?

You only need to buy one pot of live yoghurt, then you can make your own with the last bit out of the pot and fresh milk.

I seem to remember somewhere that live yoghurt can be used in the treatment of thrush for women.
Anyone know of any other medical usage for live yoghurt?

Probiotic yoghurt drinks like Actimel are available pretty much everywhere - or at least 'everywhere' in my experience (that's Gdansk urban, plus na wsi)

Yoghurt in general : very little 'low-fat' stuff available (contrast to Vancouver where it was sometimes impossible to buy 'not low-fat' versions. It's all suspiciously pleasant though - even the 'natural' versions are easy to eat ... I suspect ingredients not on the list (I still don't quite trust the lists of ingredients in Poland)

You can also get buttermilk very easily - it will have more of a zing. Homogonised (sp?) versions are commonly available so no need to learn how to drink lumps.

p.s. a Polish 'Apteka' (pharmacy) will be delighted to sell you capsules full of these little bacteria. You can swallow the pill or empty the contents into the food of your choice. It's quite a national habit here - every prescription for antibiotics will come with instructions to take bugs as well.
[I'm hoping that the evil habit of using glass phials has passed for ever - but always good to check for digestible capsules before buying]

It is my dream that one day England will be so advanced! They NEVER tell you to do that. I ALWAYS tell me friends to take live yoghurt after antibiotics, and they refuse to listen to me, because their doctor/pharmacist didn't tell them to! Then of course they always end up with vaginal thrush or candida overgrowth in the intestine.

That's not true. As I don't drink yoghurt, I'll comment only the buttermilk (maślanka), with 2 examples (of my favorite producers from the region I live):
Jogo (Łódź) - live cultures of bacteria, no powdered milk,
OSM Łowicz - cultures of bacteria (the label doesn't mention "live"), no powdered milk.

All yogurts say Natural. Look in the ingredients for it to say live cuture.
