Jankowice Town - records

Does anyone know if there are any records (or where to locate them) of any villagers from this town?

I understand it was burnt down by those nice german soldiers during WW2 and now would be in current day Belarus.

what time frame king? early 1900s? prior to that? later then that?

poland changed so much, so many times. when you mentioned jankowice
I was thinking malopolskie, the way to get the records is writing the parish
but you have to make sure cause now there are more churches.

Krysia can probably locate more then me with this one. or even Wroclaw.
I am better with states. but I did get docs from poland.

anything up til the 1940's, my family really know nothing of their family name heritage as that town was burnt down and most records destroyed with it. i can only go back as far as my great grandparents.

What last names are you looking up?

for some reason jankowice sounds so familiar, like I have searched around that
area, but I am not positive. I know of Jankowo which is near Lomza.

i just get names from the states when i type my last name on ancestry search engines. i need relatives from poland.

Maybe It was "Americanized" and orginal version is a bit different ?

that is why i was trying to locate the town records to find out what the original spelling of my name was.

i dont think it was americanized as i reside in australia and have the same spelling as those in america.

king, is it sobieski? for some reason that town you mentioned sounds familiar
I do have sobieski name also in my tree, thats why that town is familiar

I have Sobecki and Sobieski, and I have pics of these folks too, I am going to look
in some old emails. I swear I heard that town name a gazillion times before.

its just my username, sobieski was the general that freed Vienna from the turks way back in the day. maybe you are a descendant of him.

it was in my mums words, some lil back water village that got destroyed by the germans in the second world war.

im not sure i want to post my last name over the internet considering there are very few people with my last name, in Australia especially.

i think i really need information from that town and hopefully trace my history back that way. finding similiar names in the US makes probably wont get me there.

yes it could, because name spellings come up differently. never say never

mormon site has a history center, they microfilmed tons of stuff in poland.

you can do a town search and see what is microfilmed. do you have a local
history center?

ya know what I will check and see if you have any in australia.
if you do, you can order these films and go copy the records of all folks pertaining
to your last name and figure it out from there.

ok, heres some more interesting reading about Jankowice, jankowo, which I do
have some ties to a town name jankowo, but prob not same name.

and seriously , these mormons can help you find resources, I am not kidding.

Could the town in question be Jankowicze?

Jankowicze is located southeast of Naliboki. Naliboki is located about midpoint between the cities of Lida and Minsk, in Belarus.

It could well be, I will ask my parents and let you know.

My Grandfather is from Jankowice, I found several spellings but Jankowice is the only hit I got. I found it in southern Poland in an industrial area. But when I mapquested in, I got 6 hits, so i don't know which one he is from.

King, you will definitely get help from the Mormons (Family History Center).
That is how I knew when my relatives came over from Poland to USA.
FHCs are worldwide. The help was freely given from the center I went to.
In USA, we also have internet use of ELLIS ISLAND immigration records.
