Job and accommodation market in Ireland are getting scarce

There are about 400,000 Polish people living in Ireland and thousands more arriving every year. Where are we Irish going to find accommodation and jobs for them all?

Seems to be an exaggeration...source? Current figures quoted are around....250,000, perhaps Daffy can up-date?




Ireland.....2hrs from Poland......Canada...9 to east coast........plus you can get to Ireland for minimal amounts.......cheapest to canada.....£350(?)...plus most workers are migrants only.

You rather worry where you will find jobs and accommodation for yourself.

And.......... it's OK though for tens of thousands of Irish to come to to the UK to live and work every year???

The sad reality is the Celtic Tiger economy is going into recession. Food prices are soaring. Accommodation is very expensive in both Dublin and Cork. Traffic congestion in our major cities is a serious problem and getting worse all the time. The Polish who are already here are desperately looking for work. Many of them are in the building industry. Its not so easy because we are inundated with foreigners from many countries.

I would suggest to any foreigner thinking of coming to Ireland to live and work, to come here on holiday first to become acquainted with the situation, before making a serious decision to move here. The Irish are very open to foreigners, but jobs are not as plentiful as you may imagine. And if you can’t read, write and speak English fluently, you are at a serious disadvantageous.

I am a Danish Journalist, and I am interested in what you do in Ireland with accommodation for the workers coming from eastern Europe to Ireland?

Who takes care of the accommodation?
Has the goverment made some temperary places to stay for the workers?
How does it work in general?

They are British (northern ireland), so its not the same, also many have family in Ireland dating back 100s of years so again not the same...

My answer is quite simple: There is an eliment of Irish / British adults who do not want to work as benifits keep them quiet nicely on their fat arses at home. This creates a shortage of workers in many industries. As far as i can tell all Poles in Ireland are fully employed and therefore assisting our industry here. Accomodation... there's no accomodation shortage in my area.
PS. I need a few LGV drivers for my UK / Ireland operation if there are any out there :)
