The Job will start at 9pm where you will help me in bed and to get settled for the evening and help with bladder management. All successful applicants will be taken to the hospital where full training will be given. I can offer a good reliable Job in a nice friendly home.

7 Evening cover required so this may work better on a job share basis.

Thankyou for reading my advertisement and I look forward to hear from you.

I sympathise with your condition, however...

This is below the National Minimum Wage.

Minimum wage in the UK is as follows :

£3.64 per hour - 16-17. You would have to pay 40.04 per night.
£4.92 per hour - 18-20. You would have to pay 54.12 per night.
£5.93 - 21 and above. You would have to pay 65.23 per night.

Unless he is giving the net rate.

Also, he could employ the person in Poland and then second them to work in the UK. That would avoid UK minimum wage regulations.

Hmm, wouldn't he still be coming in below NMW for the 21+ rate at least with such an amount?

He'd have to deal with the Polish tax authorities then - can't imagine that happening ;)

I know what he's doing, and it's likely that he's getting the cash via "Direct Payments" from the council - I don't even think he's attempting to rip people off, just that the council are probably giving him 40 quid a day for care and he's paying this to the potential carer. Apparently, councils have been doing quite a lot of this little scheme.

It's already happening: there's a firm which sends Polish live-in carers to Germany.

It depends whether the guy wants working-night cover, where the person is awake, or sleepover cover where the person gets 7 or 8 hours sleep.

That's what I thought, but have a look here - http://www.unison.org.uk/file/Workers%20Required%20to%20Sleep%20In%20- %20Minimum%20Wage.pdf

Seems to me (from reading that) that unless the employee is specifically "off duty" for periods of time (and cannot be called "on duty"), the NMW will apply for the whole night.

That's always been a sore point. Most councils regard the first half hour if you have to get up in the night as covered by the allowance (used to be 21 quid, probably not changed much) then after that they pay the hourly rate.

In theory when you're on sleep in, you should have a lockable room and access to food and drinks, but that may not work if you're in someone's home.

Or at least that is how much they think that they can get away with paying for it.

hi
It is sleep in rate, as once I am in bed I am sorted, so, unless you have to get up more than twice or once (for a substantial length of time) minimum wage dose not apply. I think people on here work for an agency in Lancaster what advertises everywhere for live-in care and earn £500 for 24/7, they charge £935......they say it is because of training etc.............i could train someone for lift/handling, bowls, skin care and catheter etc in a week for free!

That's highly unlikely, given that I know all the posters who have posted in this thread (other than you). Why don't you get in touch with Promedica. They send (or at least used to send) live-in carers to Germany, might be able to do UK too. http://www.promedica24.co.uk/contact

I do not work for Promedica and nor have I ever worked for them.
