Sorry my friend but two years experience in the Lublin area and you are only charging 30zl for 60 minutes??
Most Polish teachers I know in the Lublin area charge that and natives will charge 50 to 60zl per hour including all teaching material and when I lived in Lublin ten years ago (now I live in Puławy) I was charging 40zl.
I think you should think again about how much you charge and if you are not sure have a word with other natives in the area.
This isn't criticism just friendly advice.

I would have to disagree with you 30zl is the going rate here all the natives I know charge that including me. You can charge more but at this price it's reasonable and you get more students.

I don't know the area but the going rate is 50PLN in hand for 60 mins so a good strategy is to go down to 40PLN to get more custom. It depends what kind of lessons you teach at the end of the day.

I'm not saying it's not possible to get 40zl but the natives I know charge 30zl which I think is reasonable. So I follow suit and do the same.

Well, Silesia isn't a super rich region by any stretch and they are happy to go to at least 40PLN. Still, if you have more free time then picking up many for 30PLN isn't bad, esp if a beer is thrown in.

I've read about this one school of English that advertize teaching English via a sleep therapy.

They put people in a dark room and ask them to relax while listening to some random English chatter. Believe it or not, people pay for that.

The best way to learn any language is to live in the country that speaks it. Go to school there and take it as a native language. i.e. “student exchange program” There is more to the language than just words.

You can speak perfect English but you won’t get what people are saying if you don’t understand their culture.

Charging so much money for a lesson or two is a rip off. It’s just my personal opinion.

There was one chap on here telling us that his ex father in law was clearing 600zl a month for stacking shelfs 40 hours each week. Get real with your pricing.

The best way to learn any language is by joining Skype and seeking out people that speak that particular language. You teach me yours, Il teach you mine.

Swings and roundabouts really. Depends who your clients are and what they need.
There are some teachers who only do "convo" lessons, which is fine, but not when they are charging 50pln+ per hour and have no experience. Like I have said countless times on here, if you're good enough at your job you can make a comfortable living and the students will pay you what you deserve. Charge too little and nobody will take you seriously though.

It's all business at the end of the day.

Turn on yer Skype. Leave it run for half an hour on "Skype me" mode.

You will have at least 100 messages. Check out their nationalities. When you find the person from a country where that language is spoken, ask him/her if he/she would help you pick up that language.

Its sound advice during these hard economic times. I am saving some goons a few quid.

Anyone who pays cash to learn english should have their noggin examined.

I charge what the process is costing to provide. Meaning, if they're up for Matura, FC or TEFL and so on and up for it, then probably 50/60 per hour. If they're going to muck me about by treating it as a coffee morning, considerably more.
For 30 zlotys I prefer to sit at home and play with the *****.(cat) EDit - some dirty minds from whoever set this board up - a puss is a cat you tools :)

Not $20, 50zl for me. I'm in Gdansk and work full time for a school. I don't advertise; all my students are referrals. I don't watch the clock and if we're both enjoying the lesson, sometimes 60 minutes becomes 90 or 120. I see it as value added, and that's why I get referrals. Also, I won't go to them, except for one special exception. I have my private lessons in my flat or at a nearby coffee shop. I have anywhere from five to seven private lessons a week, sometimes more. It's a nice supplement to the salary I get from my school.

I also live in Lublin and charge 40 zlotys for an hour of conversation with a bit of proof reading thrown in when required. I have to agree with ukpolska, having lived here for just over 2 years, 40/45 zlotys/hour is the going rate and Poles will be suspicious of natives charging less. This is based on my own dealings with Polish people/ other native teachers and my wife who is polish! Best of luck and if you're a footie fan (English) come to Tifosi in the summer with some other English people and cheer on the boys! If you are not a fan or English, well come and have a beer anyway! czesc i nie pracuj zbyt duzo!!

Supply and demand. There's quite a high demand for native teachers at a cheaper price than schools. Ultimately, the only fair price is the price that the market will bear.

But who you work with is very important here - if you have worked with well known businesses, then you can easily charge more because of this alone.

It should be proportionate to earnings IMHO. I had a 15-year old once whose dad was minted. I had no problems taking 50PLN an hour for just conversation. However, had he come from a poor family then you have to adjust accordingly. Between 30-50PLN is the range I operate between but some even nominate themselves to pay 60PLN.

20PLN is bordering on favour territory. Reverse psychology could apply in that they see you as being cheap.

I can't agree more 30zl is a base to work up from depending on what's involved if it's just conversation or higher for a full lesson. Tifosi is a nice place I was at my friends batchelor party there on Saturday. I could definately join you folks there for a beer in the summer although I'm a Scotsman so I don't think I'll be cheering England on :)

Well, I'm a Scotsman too but with English friends. However, no cheering for England :)

Ask Harry, he charges exorbitant prices. Sth like 120PLN per hour. I can't see any lessons being worth more than 100PLN per hour. Polish teachers charge 30 quid in the UK and that's about 120PLN. What a ripoff!

I charge 40PLN for CPE, only because she doesn't have that much cash. Also, I have the key beside me so I don't need to work that hard :)

You'd have to ask Harry but I have my doubts. Some highly specialised work could even be 200-250PLN per hour but those are really one-off affairs where sb possesses esoteric knowledge that very few know. Standard English classes cannot get near that, Warsaw or not!

I had a few students who paid 120 an hour. They were Directors or executives so had a bit of cash to throw about.
