Thread attached on merging:
irish man looking to work in poland

hello, i hope someone has some good advice out there for me. i am irish, with a polish fiancee. she is from poznan, and we want to move there as soon as possible. i do not speak polish(but am trying to learn). loking for work in poznan, or wroc³aw, or even warsaw or other areas.
i have been in the construction game most of my life. spent years doing formwork/shuttering. also in the carpentry trade, and most recently client snagging apartments in belfast, which requires some experience in a large variety of trades.
i am not bothered what kind of work i get, so long as it is work. just something to help me get established there.
any advice or help would be greatly appreciated
thanks

Hmm...if you come to Poznan, I can introduce you to some people that might have some advice for you. It's not impossible, but be prepared to do a lot of knocking on doors.

I'd actually quite like to get into property management, but alas, no time at this time of year to actually start something up :(

Haha, at least in my case, it's motivated by hearing endless horror stories about property management companies that don't even do the basic things right!

But not right now - too much money to be made from teaching to bother at this time of year ;)

Until, like me, you realised they're hooves not hands?

Learning a language in school is very very different from learning a language when you are living in the country.
I find it much easier to learn the language in the country, so don't give up hope just yet, well not until you have to master the grammar.... but fear not.
Necessity is the mother of all invention.

thanks to all of you for your replies, especially the sheep ones haha:). well i think i shall be moving to poznan at the beginning of 2011. i have been there to visit a couple of times, and have spoken with a few people about work there. i know that to learn the language, the best thing is full immersian in it.
i can do lots of different jobs, i was doing formwork and concrete for several years, but my passion is in finishing work. i can tile, paint, hang doors, lay floors, etc. i also do some plumbing and electrical, but i only know irish/english system.
anyone who knows of, or hears of anyone looking for a house refurb or anything else construction related can post a reply here.
thanks again everyone

Make sure you speak to the owner or investor Irish or Brit, you will have more luck, the Local will fob you off.
