You laugh, but things are apparently so desperate in Berlin for many "native speakers" that they're willing to travel to someone's flat to give them instrument lessons for 5 euro an hour.

That isn't even enough to feed yourself for a day.

Is that due to a glut of real native speakers like in Krakow, the economy, just cause its Berlin or what?

Just way, way, way too many people who think that "man, I wanna live in Berlin, it'll be awesome" without considering it. There's also a hell of a lot of them employed in a so-called "minijob" - which, as I understand - only allows you to earn 400 euro a month and no social insurance is paid.

Where's Imielin?

Is native speaker a word or was it never?

Two stops before the end of the line.

Seriously, it seems that there are a lot of hard-up native speakers in PL at the moment. It PL a bad corner of the world to be at the moment?

Not from what I can tell - I'm still getting 3-4 e-mails a week enquiring about my availability, and still plenty of work being offered in language schools in the 4:30-8:30pm timescale.

I'd say that it's becoming more and more difficult for people who aren't thoroughly professional - there's now enough people here that you don't have to take the guy who was fired from a Callan school, for instance.

The other thing - the days of "lucrative, guaranteed hours" seem to be over. I had a discussion with one school director about this - he told me that there's now so much choice for teachers that he is only offering 12 hours a week to new teachers - with only reliable, established teachers getting 20-24.

Yea, its a real english term however I never liked it. In a similar vein to "In my free time I..." or "I need to get credit to buy a house", its English thats been slightly corrupted or misused but in a way so understandable and in a way logical that I'm pretty sure it'll be accepted as real English.

I'll also add that similar to delph I get at least an email or two a week asking if I'm interested in teaching. I turn them all down cause either I'm too busy, the money is not good enough, or maybe its cause I'm just plain lazy. Empik sent me an email a few days ago, get this, in-company business english classes at fine hours like 7:30am for... 50zl/60mins. I told them, a la BrE, to "bugger off". I guess if you're a clown or bum you might have difficult finding a steady job but the market is still ok. Just that it's getting worse and worse or maybe more saturated.
