Ah, another Indian.

(for any Polish people who are unaware - Patel is a stereotypical Indian name)

I'll leave it to the others to point out the mistakes.

for someone who is always bleating about racism I find your tone unpleasant.
At least others are honest about their prejudices.

There's no point in being a bleeding heart liberal in this case. For 40PLN an hour in Lublin, he should be damned good - and he's making mistakes in his advertisement. It's not even racism - just a simple fact that Indians are pretty much unsuited for teaching English to Europeans. I could go on all day - Indian English is, at times, almost totally different. Look at the Indian use of "kindly" as an example.

Of course, he could be one of the very rare examples of someone who has a clear accent - but frankly, I very much doubt that any well-spoken Indian would end up in Lublin.

If you take money from someone, you should be good at what you do - and not just doing it because "there's nothing else to do".

In what way is it racist to conclude that somebody who has an Indian surname and does not have a native speaker knowledge of English is Indian? There are Patels in countries other than India but pretty much only English-speaking countries: the OP doesn't appear to be a native speaker of English.

I am not a "bleeding heart liberal" (do you only deal in cliches?) I just find your tone racist, dishonest and patronising.
I have no idea whether Mr Patel is a good English teacher, but I am sure you would be a better one if you didn't waste so much time here posturing as a fake liberal.

Harry I simply found his tone nasty...("for you Poles who might not understand...." Just my opinion.

How many Poles have met anybody named Patel? Or know where the name is from?

I was referring to myself as being one, it's something that I get accused of frequently on here ;)

Fake liberal? I have no time for incompetence, but I'm still pretty damn liberal. I just don't think that the vast majority of English speaking Indians are suitable for teaching English in Europe - especially as most of them are simply students (visa! visa!) that are trying to pay off their loans after discovering that they can't get a part time job in Poland. For 40PLN an hour (which seems to be the going rate for a native speaker in Lublin) - you'd expect someone who is spot on, rather than someone who makes very strange mistakes. Funnily enough - I've found that in terms of writing, Nigerians tend to be spot on.

It might sound harsh, but many of them are conned into coming to Poland by an "agent" who promises them that it's the land of milk and honey - of course, the lack of work for them is never mentioned.

As for the Poles not understanding - they might very well believe that "Patel" is just an ordinary surname. I had no idea about Polish surnames before coming here - even "ski" was stereotypically Russian, not Polish for me.

(for what it's worth, you'll see that I've criticised native speakers too on here for making mistakes in their advertisements)

stop. stop right now :(

What I really don't understand is why we aren't seeing more Indian IT graduates here - you'd think that Poland, being accepted as producing some very high level IT grads, would start to attract them, but it doesn't seem so.

Gah. It's not, and that's the worst thing.

I actually start to get the impression that Poland's image as being xenophobic comes from the Polonia and not Poland itself. I mean, if you look at PF - the Polish posters are proud of Poland, but not racist - but the Polonia posters are the ones all babbling on about how Poland needs to avoid immigrants and so on.

It's what I've been saying for quite a long time: Poland really doesn't need those racist Americans pretending that they in any way speak for or represent Poland. Few of them know a damn thing about Poland and many of them haven't returned to Poland because they or their parents collaborated with the communist regime! Real Poles live in and work for Poland: the only positive thing that the racist Plastic Poles in the USA do for Poland is stay out of our wonderful country.

What's the Arab cafe in Lublin like? Worth a visit? Is there anywhere in Lublin to get a curry?

Well, there's the coals to Newcastle thing, for a start.

But if you mean attracting Indian IT majors into undergrad study, many of the coders I know here succeeded in spite of their studies, not because of them.

An Indian friend in Britain once told me that if you marry a Patel you get 400 cousins!

Could do well. Threading is catching on in Europe.
