Katyn premiered in Warsaw on 17th September, so general release in Poland will be soon.
Like the majority of Polish films, general release in other countries is in the hands of film distributors and cinema owners. You have to hope is does well in the festivals over the coming year...
official website (Polish only) is
http://www.katyn.netino.pl/

This website shows all the Polish films you may have missed....

Looks like a powerful movie. Of course, seeing it on the big screen is probably impossible here in the U.S., but some of the better video stores might have it in six months or so.

Thanks for mentioning it!

To Lukasz:

Get to the dox on Wiki...the Russians are saying there is no way to verify them (and thus having to admit to their crime) saying those aren't originals yet photocopies....

was photocopying around back then? how could they be forgeries? has some little old man in a Polish village kept a 1940s typewriter, a modern photocopier and Stalin's own signature specifically for these forgeries?

Maybe you all have forgiven, but it still angers me...among all the other crimes committed against our ppl and land.....

Jelcyn and Gorbaczow excussed for this mord, so I dont understand why russians are trying to false history again.

because the guy that runs the country is an ex-spy, and that's what spies do - they lie, cheat, eavesdrop, and steal.

it's a very interesting film, very horrific ending.

i am scottish and had never heard of this atrocity, but decided i wanted to watch the film whilst holidaying in gdansk

i liked the part where the woman would not go with the german officer where she would be safe, as she had a husband.

very sad film , especially if you were polish. it would make me have a lot of hatred for certain nationalities

Fristly, Waida used clich which I really love ;)

erw

4r4ty

Secondly this movie shows Polish reallity in '39 - '46

I m really glad that Wajda hasnt made movie like M Gibsons "pasion" so we dont have to much blood what is really good. We have more sublimated fight in peoples minds ... ehhh :) I m really proud that my ansestors were on right side this time ...

Oh yes especialy opinions of people who have oficers of "armia ludowa" in their families.

It is movie about Katyń which shows not only extermination of our officers but situation of their families, German- Russian cooperation, propaganda , and situation of our society ...

In my opinion this the way we should go, If we want to show our history, our values, our way of thinking, our choices. I m really glad that this movie isnt pathetic but realistic.

I m really impresed.

There is a DVD version later this year (April, I believe). And what's more, to broaden the movie's impact and appeal, it has English subtitles! I passed this information along to the Polish Canadian Cultural Association in Calgary, and am definitely going to get a copy for myself, and share it with my brothers and whoever else I can interest.

Very poor effort from Wajda - was expecting much more from the man, especially about a movie on such a sensitive subject. Jumping from character to character especially near the end of the movie without establishing half of them was really the low point for me.

Amen Sadek, Patriotism and Nationalism have a very thin line, and too many individuals corss it due to confusion and a lack of subjective idealism.

Anne Applebaum about Katyń

Katyn wasn't a single wartime event, but a series of lies and distortions, told over decades, designed to disguise the reality of the Soviet postwar occupation and Poland's loss of sovereignty.

Does anyone have an English subtitle to this movie? The other half does not like translating while watching the movie.
