Recently I've been interested in Poland. I heard there are more and more well-off people or members of their families that are being kidnapped for ransom. What's up with that? The police must have too little power in Poland that such situations happen in such country like Poland.. I thought such things could happen on daily basis only in "3rd world countries".

Don't worry about being kidnapped, if people know your from overseas you will be a sure target of being robbed... I'll probally get a post informing me of police stats.. most people don't report cash thefts as it is not covered by any insurance policy.

Either they are exaggerating, or they read tabloids.

A sure target?? I don't think it's that bad.
Just try to avoid dark alleys, don't show people how much money do you have, follow your instinct when it comes for strangers and everything should be alright. I don't think polish cities are more dangerous for tourists than lets say American ones.

Thank you. I really feel flattered, especially since you are one of the users of this forum that I really have a big respect for.

PS: And I truly hope that Mrs. Matyjasz really feels lucky to be with me. Then again, she doesn't have any choice, hehehe... )

Yep, kidnapping in Poland is a huge problem. Only this week I was kidnapped twice. Polish kidnappers are very smart guys. You wouldn't even know that you were kidnapped. For example my sister realized that she was kidnapped after about three months. There is only one problem in Poland which is more serious. Polar bears on the streets. They do not respect any traffic rules.
