my mom stopped making them a while ago. I dunno why. But anyway I wanna surprise her and make some for dinner on Sunday.
but I can't remember- what kind of sauce goes with them? my mom used to use tomato sauce. does anyone have a nice home made recipe that could go along with the goł±bki? or maybe there are alternative sauces?
thanks in advance :D

V8 Juice works, but can be a little sour. Tomato juice is my favourite.

I add plain tomato sauce (not spaghetti sauce), a little water and cut up raw bacon right into the same pot that the cabbage rolls cook in. By the time they are done the pot is full of sauce that tastes like cabbage, tomatoes and bacon. Delicious! I put salt inside of the cabbage rolls but not into the sauce because the bacon is salty enough.

Some people take a short cut and use condensed tomato soup and water but that taste too sweet to me and the pot tends to burn on the bottom because of the sugar that's in the soup.

Hope these tips help. Good luck!

So did my mum :) But she also used condensed tomato soup sometimes as well. I preferred that as it was a bit milder........

I have only ever had them with tomato sauce. Anybody tried putting a bit of chilli in the sauce, I hadn't thought of it until now but it seems like it could work. Mmmmmm.....

The local supermarket sells Golabki in a jar, I haven't tried it - it dont look too good.

mmmm pierogi , golabki , kotleti, bitki, kluski..........<grin> That's made me really hungry :)

Eeww. I don't think I've ever heard of it made from Ketchup.

I'd go with the plain tomato sauce monk;)

I make mine with 50% tomato juice and 50% vegetable broth, with two or three tablespoons of white vinegar. It's also not a bad idea to dip the cabbage leaves into vinegar (either straight or diluted, your preference) before rolling up the golabki.

My mum made great ones. Did your mum put them in the oven to bake and crisp up before she served them up........I think that makes all the difference.....

I think tomato soup was/is a popular thing to put on them........yummy :)

Which part of Poland are you from Wyspy ? Just north, south , west, east . Don't post any private info on here :(

My mom used ketsup also. Mix with water not straight out of the bottle to form a sauce.

My grandmother used to make them 2 ways. sometime with the tomatoes based sauce and sometimes with a mushroom gravy. She made it from scratch but it was like Cream of Mushroom soup but darker in color.

I've made the rolls for 40 years here in the us...
after i fill the roaster pan, i dice up bacon and lightly fry, not
too crisp, and pour some of the grease a bits over the entire rolls.
you would not belive how it changes the flavor.

just use some marinara sauce out of a jar! Maybe meat flavored? Stuffed cabbage is so much work to boil the cabbage leaves and then roll'em around the meat - make your job easier and use already made marinara sauce!

Experiment with different sauces. U can have grzybowy, pieczarkowy or borówkowy, all of which match well. Poles tend to favour tomato sauce but Poland is a country that is rich in mushroom sauces

Depends I suppose on where you are, when I was in England I used to love a bit of HP or Branson sauce on them, here I prefer sour cream to Tomato sauce, but then I hate ketchup.
