What kind of toys are popular with children in Poland today

My Mother is getting a package ready to send to family in Poland. This family has a little boy about 5 years old. We would like to include some toys for this boy and wanted to know if he would be interested in toys that a popular in the US, some of which have batteries which we would include but are batteries available in Poland? The same kind as in the US..AA, C, D and so on.

I would appreciate any suggestions as this family is very poor and we want to send them some nice stuff.

Batteries are the same here. No need to worry about that part.

Toy cars, Action Man. I think five year olds are the same the world over.

A 5-year old boy would really like a remote control car. They have more choices in the US, they have some in Poland but are very expensive.
He would like an electronic game where you press buttons and learn ABC's and songs in English.
A CD with Tom and Jerry or Bugs Bunny.
Anything that moves and makes noice.
Anything on wheels.

Thank You for the suggestions and I'm also happy that batteries are available as many boy toys are remote control..cars and action figures.

Since after the holidays many toys are on clearance sales we plan to buy a bunch of stuff for this boy and also some nice things for his Mom. She has had a very difficult life, abandoned by her own Mom, raised by her Grandmother who has passed away.

Sorry...I should have asked if batteries are universal...same kind all over the world.
Since I've never been to Poland or Europe, I have no idea if the same types of batteries are used worldwide. I would hate to send a child a battery operated toy and find out later that replacement batteries were not available.

On the subject of batteries for toys, are they expensive in Poland, are they readily available everywhere?? A, AA, C, D and so on.

The problem might be with electricity - like you mentioned.

Batteries are at a fair price and have the same sizes as anywhere else.

Babcia's question was a very intelligent one. The electric current is different in Europe, plugs and outlets are different. Polish VCR tapes do not work in the US, they have to be re-taped. You can get transformers to use US devices in European outlets.

Europe uses 220 for everything America uses 110 on most things and 220 on the big stuff. Europe is a better system it is more a cost effective. But we already know that Americans are wasteful.

Yeah, that's true. But they can afford it. If their pants or clothes have a hole in them, they throw it out. In Poland they will mend them.
If a TV breaks down, out to the dump it goes and get another one.

Sorry, its not a question of affording it, but pure economics, the cost of items are more expensive to get repaired than the cost of a new item, lets not make out that every american is just loaded with money and doesn't know what do do with it.
Get off your horse and take a walk downtown, the slums, ghettos and its not all that rosy.
I must admit that some of these poor people in these slums are more worse off than there counterparts in Poland.

Not everyone in America wastes, but that is the image it portrays to other countries. There are many homeless people who live in boxes, at least they don't get taxed for it. I think...
If you have a house you pay taxes, but if you have a mobile-home on wheels, then you don't. I know, because I lived in one of those once.

Frankly, the people who live on the street do so because they want to be there or there is "something wrong" with them. Lots of them refuse to come to shelters even at 25F below. Often, they are forcefully taken.

I always say that if an immigrant can come to this country with just a suitcase and can make a great living for themselves - just like all Poles do, then the ones who are born here choose the life they have. Work is the answer.

The city, the state, the country can only help so much.

I think the Polish should sell their holy jeans to Abercrombie and Fitch. Then the Americans could pay 80 Dollars for them. Then the polish could buy new jeans ,and then the circle could start all over again.
