Wow! What a site. I've just spent the last hour or so reading some of the posts here and my God!!! What a wacky wicked forum this is! Great to see so many different, sometimes outrageously weird, views expressed here. I was born in Wroclaw, Poland but have spent most of my life in Perth, Australia, so I love taking in anything Polish, especially Polish opinions and thoughts. I'm also thinking of going back to Poland soon for an unspecified time, depending on how it will all pan out, so I can't wait to get some advice from all you residents on how things are at the moment - the last time I was back in Poland was about 4 years ago, and I know how quickly things are changing there all the time! Buzka and hopefully speak soon..

kinga,

I will only repeat what I have said in other threads.

I'm from Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England and I love Wroclaw [until I get stuck in traffic]

On the forum there is now quite a big group of people either from here or visiting.

If you'd like to know what's new. Just ask.

Wroclaw,

Fair enough - so what's new? LOL

Don't mean to bore you shitless (do I detect some weariness in your response?), but it's hard to know what kinds of questions people want to answer on these sites. I guess I'm just generally probing for info regarding my home-town and how life is there at the moment. The last time I visited was 4 years ago, and I couldn't believe my eyes. It had changed from a pretty grey, dark Commie's wet dream into a Capitalist side-show, complete with drive-through LOL, and all in the space of a few years. Guess I'm just wondering how much more it's transformed itself. And in what direction the changes are heading, ie. a Burger King on every corner or more towards a European cafe feel, if you know what I mean. I'm thinking of possibly staying there for longer/ever, so am grateful for any kind of info.

Burger King on every corner

There is no Burger King in Wroclaw at present. But expect that to change soon.

New buildings are going up all the time, but some of these projects will have been in the planning stage when you were last here. It's office space that is taking over the city. At this moment I can see four tower cranes in the middle of Pl. Bema, where they are building a new office block and ground level shops. Expect to see new shopping malls when you get back. We are getting a couple of bridges repaired at the moment and this is adding to the traffic chaos. If you come back around Christmas time I think the city might have sorted itself out for the better. In two or three years it will be different again.
Rynek is all pubs and clubs and in summer it has a great feel to it. In winter it's still a good place to go but looks different. The whole length of the river through the city and a little beyond is being renovated with new walkways and strengthening of the riverbanks. All in all it's looking good for the future but can be tiresome when delays cause missed appointments.

Sounds busy indeed. I am actually thinking of coming back just before Christmas so I'll have a lot of changes to look forward to.

Thanks again Wroclaw

Hi Dagmara, thanks for your welcome, though I do have a confession to make - Kinga is actually my second name (my first name's Monika), I just use it on internet escapades 'cos it's easier to keep as a username. But feel free to call me Kinga - I actually prefer it And one of my best friends here is called Dagmara - love that name!
So you're also a Wroclaw expat - that's wonderful! Hope to reminisce with you sometime

Hi there telefonitika (love that name by the way)!

So you're also redirecting your life plans in Poland's direction - wicked! Seems there are quite a few people opting for life there these days - how ironic when not too long ago everyone was trying to get out! A lot of younger Poles going back as well - the whole cultural roots thing I think. God knows my heart-strings get a serious tug whenever I think of PL these days
And I couldn't agree more about the jazz scene - best in the world I reckon - very underrated internationally...like the beer!!...ahh, can't wait either
Enjoy your trip sweetie - I'm so jealous - I probably won't be able to get out there until about July at the earliest
