since poland is near russia, do soviet or russian movies get released in poland? i thought that those movies would be nothing but silly, cheap, poor communist movies(kinda like what u'd expect from a north korean movie) but after having read about them such is most likely not the case. when u look at imdb, many of them like voyna i mir or my name is ivan etc. there's even a soviet version of sherlock holmes! they get mostly positive reviews and ratings although i'm certain outside of the fomer soviet union, these movies have reached only a small audience.

I dont remember any russian movie in polish TV but its not the case that its russian. There are mainly films from USA, England and polish movies in our tv. Sometimes films form other countries are shown but these must be really good, famous films. Does Russia have any famuos movies? Polish last famoust movie known worldwide was "Pianist", although it wasnt really polish but made by polish director with polish actors. My point is that polish TV shows well known or good movies from another countries, if its russian, french or spanish is not that important.
And I dont understand what does "russophilic" mean?

whoops! my bad. i mean russophobic. i think i chose the wrong word anyways as i thought it meant hating russia or its people but the more accurate definition is 'fearing' russia or its people. russophilic means liking russia or its people. btw, its possible that i just happened to make these words up.

i have always thought that due to russia's and the soviet union's imperialistic attitude towards other countrie made poles dislike russians. so maybe if they air russian movies or shows then it would be thought to be heresy or something like that.

Russophile means
a person who is friendly to, admires, or prefers Russia or Russian customs, institutions, An admirer of Russia or its people, language, or culture.

I know the vast majority of u must be russophilic, but
I am not sure that the person who started this topic, does know the meaning of russophilic. (the word is spelled incorrectly, if there is such a word, I did not find it in the dictiomary)

I personally like Russian literature, art.
Some of the famous Russian writers whose novels were made into movies are Dostoyevsky and Tolstoy; movies such as: Anna Katarina, War and Peace, Crime and Punishment, etc.
I do not think that Russian movies are silly, cheap, poor, etc.

I WONDER WHO IS U, (majority of u must )

Most, if not all, Poles disliked/dislike communism, but not the Russian people.
Russian people where in the same predicament as Poles, when communists were in power.

Poles are not russophobic, I noticet that people have some prejudices towards Germany but definitely not towards Russia. I have great respect for Russia, it was the country that helped Poland the most in the end of the war although it finished as a slavery.

Anyway I saw Anna Katarina movie, but USA version and Dostoyevsky is a famous writer, very well known in Poland. Crime and Punishment was obligatory reading in my high school.
