I'm here because my wonderful Ukrainian boyfriend asked me to marry him. I'm totally made up but he's the only Ukrainian I know I wanted to find out more about Ukrainian men. Everywhere I have looked on the net says bad, drunk, lazy, violent, dead before 40, don't touch them. He seems to be rewriting the rule book on the typical Ukrainian bloke as he is none of the above, non smoking, hard working, very peaceful and calm, drinks the occassional red wine.

I've tried to sign up to a more specific website in Ukraine, ukraine.com/forums (well the only website in the world along these lines) to find out more about the UKR men but the moderator personally refused me an account!!!??? That's why I'm here. I am hoping some people on this forum can enlighten me and hopefully tell me that all is not true what is being portrayed on the web after all there is much history between Poland and Ukraine.

hi,
I am Ukrainian, know a lot of Ukrainians and they are good people. I am not gonna brag about them, since I am part of that nationality. There is always a bad apple everywhere you go, so judging by your description he seems to be a fine man.
usually it's good to follow your heart in matters like that. You seem to be a little mistrusful. Is it beacue you know nothing about Ukrainians or is it becaue you have only heard bad stuff?

Good luck,
M

Our history wasn't always jolly good, but I had the pleasure to meet some Ukrainian people and they were all a very sharp, witty and honest lot.
.
I don't know your boyfriend so it's hard for me to say if he is similar to the people I had the pleasure to meet. I guess it's up for your woman intuition. I wish you all the best.

I am not mistrustful to him at all. He's by far the best man I've ever had in my life, I'm English and no more English guys for me! No, this was more to do with the fact I don't know any other Ukrainians and all the research I could find which was incedentally about Ukrainian language and culture, was men = bad. I just had to ask.

I do apprieciate that history between these two nations hasn't always been rocking. I spent some time in a communist school as a teenager and I understand much of the people in the former e-bloc but no Ukrainians.

My hubby of 37 years is Polish/Ukranian..Mom (Polish)..Dad (Ukrainian)

My hubby is loving, loyal and very family oriented. He is a hard worker, knows how to fix everything in our house and car(s). He is overly protective..always worried that something will happen. He loves to spend time with family, doesn't usually swear (only while driving..LOL), drinks on occasion but never gets drunk. Love to listen to music, is very generous in giving gifts, always willing to help others..friends and family. He is my
friend and my lover even after all these years..

When I first met him, I knew that he was the one for me and I didn't know anything about Ukrainians.

Good Luck and Best Wishes to you and your boyfriend.

Hope things work out for you, milly. I have an account on ukraine.com. If you didn't get an okay, it's probably because someone had the same name. Try again. Ukrainian men post there. It takes a couple of days to get a registration through.

Is it just a quick kiss? I hope so. Does he say and do affectionate things to you or does he only do that to his mom?

I can't answer your question because I don't know Ukrainian men but I know that some Polish mothers are very controlling, especially toward their sons. But not all of them are. And this happens all over the world so it's not just a Polish or Ukrainian thing.

Does she come between the two of you? If she does at this point she probably always will, unfortunately. I've seen situations like that and the mother always wins in the end.
