I've been lurking in the shadows for about a week and decided to join this nice group of people.

As you can tell by my username I'm a Babcia (Grandma) of two wonderful little boys. I live in Illinois northwestern suburbs of Chicago. I found this site while looking for info on Polish Genealogy. My parents were born in Poland and I was born in Germany after WWII. My family came to America in the 1950's. I speak Polish and can read some of it but unfortunately I can't write in Polish.

I recently got a computer at home so now I'm learning how to use it. I was a Payroll Manager for many years, my hubby is an Engineer, he is Ukranian/Polish. We have two grown daughters, older one is a Physical Therapist and younger one is a Teacher. Younger one is married and has blessed our family with two boys, they are the joy of my world.

Well, enough about me. LOL I tend to talk too much.

Hope to get to know you. I think I may be the oldest one here.

Good move on your part. You're close to Whalen Park. My Grandparents died in 1976 and Humbolt Park was a bad area then. In the 60's we would go to that park and play, ice skate on the pond, and sled on the hills. I also remember the Polish men playing Chess at the picnic tables.

Whalen pool and the tobaggan run its still there. Czerwone Jablazko has a restaurant
a block North on Milwaukee ave. Most of the little bars are owned by Polish people now.
Its a good neighborhood here.

Welcome Kochana Babcia, I also live in the NW suburb of Chicago. This forum is fun. I'm glad to see more and more members from The US. I had a impression at first that it was mostly UK in charge here.

Hello again and Thanks for all the messages of welcome.

As a child we lived in the Wicker Park area and used to go to Humbolt Park for Sunday picnics. While in high school we lived near Grand & Austin. I went to Holy Family Academy
on Division St. When I got married we lived in the Belmont/Central area and my girls
attended St. Ladislaus Grade School.

I have many friends and family that went to Lane Tech. Did you know that now it is a co-ed
school.

For a short time when I was in grade school we lived in Wisconsin, my parents and grandparents had a farm and thought it would be like in Poland..have land and make a
good living but small farmers can't make a decent living so we moved back to Chicago.

My Mom lives near Milwaukee/Oakton area, nice location with lots of Polish people.

I still have family in Poland, in the Opole area and Idziekow.

So nice to meet all of you and looking forward to getting to know you.

Krysia..when we lived in Wisconsin we lived in the Green Lake area and we still have
family and friends that live in that area. We vacation in Wisconsin at least a week each year, always have a blast and my daughters love to ride horses.

Eurola...LOL, I love my Babcia duties. I'm in the St. Charles area. My daughter used to work in EGV at Alexian Bro. Hospital.

marynarz49..nice to meet you. I try not to worry about my age but sometimes when I read discussions my opinion is very different from many because of my age.

That's what makes some discussions interesting. We get input from all ages here. I'd like to hear more of your opinions on some of our topics.

Exactly, this forum has no age restrictions.
I'm not a spring chicken either. It is very interesting what people think regardless of their age.
