Hi!
I`m sorry if this topic has been already made time ago. But as I said it could be probably time ago and I need your help for this holidays:D
So I`m from Poland and I`d love to improve my English online. I would like to practise British pronunciation as I`ve just fallen in love with British accent:D.
And I`d be very very happy to improve other aspects, not only pronunciation. I can talk on skype or MSN, I got FB so. You can catch me wherever.

Of course I can help you improving your Polish, I`ve got a little experience with my friends from abroad. I was helping them as well.

so...Would you be so kind and help me at least for this last month of holiday:)

It`s very important for me cause I want to study in UK maybe next or following year.

warm greetings from Polska!

Thanks though:]

I`ll need to find someone else. It`s really important for me.

Which British accent do you like? There are many many British accents. Every big city has a different one.

Check my profile for further info :)

So I wanted to start studying on Glasgow Caledonian University next year, but I think for some reasons I`ll have to put it off. One of them is my English which I think if not enough. But well, I may go any other place where I could take grant. Just depends on financial aspect.

Anyway, I got into Polish university and I`ll start here. At least this and unfortunately next year.

About British accents, well I usually hear people from movies so I guess it`s accent from London. :D I hear Scottish is very hard to understand and as I wrote I might go there, so I geuss it`s gonna be good to practise this on as well.
I don`t know,
I`ll tell you guy I was this year in the USA. I was supposed to stay there for 1 year and I didn`t really like it. So I stayed 1,5 a month only and went back. I just needed our European culture:d not American...does American culture exist at all?! (sorry if I offended any American)

So you left gimnazjum and travelled a bit? My Scottish accent is quite neutral and hard to detect.

Mysłowice is quite far from Gliwice but quite close in relative terms.

Well Scottish can be hard, but after a couple of weeks you will get used to it. Once that is done all other accents will be easy to understand.

Dunno why you want to go to Glasgow, me hame toon is a sh1thole :D

The only thing is, I don't really need to practise Polish that much as my work meetings are conducted in Polish and I have a lot of contact with the language. Still, I can always improve as I'm not at the Europa da się lubić level just yet :)

Seanus, I try to travel as much as I can. I finished high school this year and I wanted just to go for this au pair programm (babysitting) and use this as opportunity for improving language and other courses that I wanted to take and would be connected with major of my studies. As I said I`m just back and I didn`t do much about what I wanted to do:)

Gliwice is not that far, you know I was thinking about studying there even:P
What are you doing there? working, studying?
And tell me what accent you speak? :D

dtaylor5632 haha I`m lughing about what you wrote, cause it`s really hard to get, my friend was working this holiday in Glasgow and he told me it`s damn hard to get it at once, but after 3 weeks he said he started catching the language:D
I see it will be quite tricky, but I`m ready to learn! I like new challenges as I like travelling!:)

The Glasgow accent is quite easy to make, you just need to imagine you're on the toilet with bad constipation;) Seriously, they speak like that :D
What are you wanting to study?

I teach English there and have done so for 6 years :)

My accent is mildly Scottish but it's not so easy to tell that I'm from Scotland. It has been described as 'nice' by many people, whatever that means ;) I know Doric really well, the dialect of NE Scotland.

Oh guys I got so much fun with reading what you write in here:)
I heard some people speaking Scottish on youtube, yup that might really sounds like problems with pooping or anything else, but I`ll have to learn it anyway

lowfunk99 I think I`m a bit poisoned, you are right:P Now, being honest, I just had bad experience and that makes me bad picture of America. I`m thinking how does your British sound like?

Nowy Sącz is a bit far you know, anyway I`m talking about online conversations on skype, how about that? :D

Beware of non-Scots trying to imitate Scots on Youtube. They really irritate me with their wide-of-the-mark imitation attempts.

Your English seems to be fine to me :)

Search for Sally Magnusson - she has a very, very nice accent.

(daughter of Magnus, no less)

You`re professionalist Seanus so you don`t need my polish lessons right?
Don`t you know someone living close to you that would be interested in language for language?

I`ll be careful thank you:) I saw couple of movies like that as well I can differ it:D don`t ask me how, I just do it:D

My English is communicative that`s all and I need CAE with C score or IELTS 6,5 for my studies. My private English teacher made kind of rehersal test for me and I got A from FCe he said that it`s claimed that people getting A for FCE are close to C from CAE. But you probably know how these tests work, you made a mistake in on task and you lost like whole the task. So it might be even better to take IELTS. I`m only afraid of listening section, cause they give you a text to liste only once, not twice as usually. My friend told me he got 8 from IELTS and his English is quite comparative to mine, so I shouldn`t be afraid as he says, but I don`t trust it that much:)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9UPJ-euBzSM, many Scots hide their accents when they sing but these guys definitely don't, LOL. Southern Scottish.

The good thing about such lessons, Ewa, is that alternating between languages can allow nuances to be captured better. Because sb can speak a language doesn't mean they have to. I don't disrespect my students by using Polish as that's not what they are there for. However, it comes in handy on occasion. Besides, we can always get better, even in our own language. My English vocab is, I'd say, a fair bit higher than your average native speaker but I've been caught out a few times before for not knowing the exact meaning of some words. In Polish, I still have a fair bit to learn to speak it with class. As it stands, I understand virtually everything and just need to stay in touch with it.

delphiandomine I like Sally`s accent thanks:) I think I should start with London accent. I don`t know I`ll think about it

Seanus, that`s right. I can say that Poles cannot use their one language! It`s funny but true. So it`s not strange for me when you say you`re better in English than a Pole in Polish. I`m sure you understand Polish mistakes as well and don`t repeat:P
So I would really like poeple to spend more time on reading books than watching TV, cause this is not the way to expand vocabulary. This might be helpful for foreigners but not for natives.
You did`t tell me where you are from exactly?

I think it's disingenuous to correct people in their own language. I do hear the occasional case mistake but it's not my business to say anything.

As for where I am from, I don't like to give too much info out over the board. This is also the policy of this forum. If you have any further questions, please PM me and I'll answer there. Thanks!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tr0erVo3EP8&feature=related, part 1 of 19. I subscribed to his page on Youtube. I understand him but don't speak like him. I can to a certain extent but I don't.

He translates to English very well. It'll give you a small snapshot of how NE Doric Scots is different from English. Remember, it's just one part of Scotland. We have many dialects and is sometimes just modified English, e.g deid instead of dead.

His accent is typical for Buckie, I'd say.

PS Ewa, it's easier to send messages to my inbox here via PM. It keeps things together and on the same page.

WOW I`m impressed with this recording! This sounds a bit like a foreigner speaking english. That will be quite hard for me to understand someone speaking fast cause he do it very slow for student needs.
Then I think I really first should try with London`s British, will be easier I guess. Scottish have different words and that will be next thing to learn, and I have to work on my pronunciation as I mentioned.

Have you ever seen "Mind you Language" this old British series. I love it and I love teacher`s accent

He has 19 parts so plenty to wade through :) It shows you just how different 'English' can be. We would speak English to foreigners, of course, but this dialect at football matches with locals :) As you say, he takes you through things slowly and patiently as any good teacher should.

London has a lot of variation too, Ewa. Cockney is different from some other London English :)

Nooo even in London there are different accents! No way! hey cannot be that different from each other! hopefully :D

I`m considering two actors accents right now. Barry Evans and Jude Law. Tell me about it
Barry`s accent http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5Ur0mzfueE&feature=search
Jude`s accent http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o1MWYh4XvyA&feature=search
