Before I was adopted from Poland, Dziernowa, my last name used to be Wnek. My papers that I have and I'm not sure how reliable they are, said that my parents names were Felix and Anna Wnek. I am desperately trying to find my family. My parents should be about 60 or so. I don't know if I have any siblings or any family in the US. If you have the same name or know of someone , I would love to hear from you. I also have a biological brother who was adopted with me. The papers say he was my real brother with the same parents. His name was Mariusz. Thanks.

I had friends by the name "Wnuk" in Poland.
Do you know which orphanage you were adopted from? They should have the paperwork, or at least do you know what town it was? Then it would be easier to find

Dziernowa Doma (for ) Mawi Dzieci. Spelling probably is awful but it translates into the Dziernowa home for little children. In July 1977. Dziernowa, I believe is in south west Poland and by the big city Wroclaw? It is only on some maps but I have seen it on the maps. Thanks so much. I will probably be talking to you every day. HA HA

If you know some Polish I recommend a Polish genealogical website where you can place your advert. I have never heard of "Dziernowa". May be "Dzierżoniów"?
Dom Małego Dziecka w Dzierżoniowie - it sounds more Polish?

genpol.com

Good luck!

By the way. "Wnuk" i "Wnęk" are two completely different surnames and quite popular in Poland. In the 90-ties "Wnęk" was used by over 3000 people in Poland and "Wnuk" by almost 10000.

Your (adopted from Poland) story is very similar to mine. I was adopted from an orphanage in Ciechanow, Poland in 1975. I was born in Warsaw, Poland. I also have paperwork, that gives the names of my biological mother & father. Fortunately, we have this information. In the United States, a great majority of adoptees in closed adoption cases, are not even allowed to know the names of their parents. [b]OUR HURDLE[b] is another language and continent.

I have thought about moving-on with a SEARCH for family back in Poland, off and on for several years now. I'm thinking about maybe hiring some agency to help me with my search. Online, I see there are a few agencies here in the United States (and Poland), that offer this type of service. The U.S. company, has a family member back in Poland, that spends a lot of time doing research for families ( in the United States) doing genealogical work.

Our scenarios seem to fall-in-line with the services they might offer. I would check references first.....of course. For anybody else reading this, would you have knowledge of a search firm / search agency........with ties to Poland, that you would recommend ?

We should trade notes about our search efforts. -Let me know how things are progressing for you. I only discovered this PolishForums.com website......about a week ago.

There was a Felix Wnek, who (my notes tell me) was born in Galicia in 1889, but he went to Chicago, Illinois, USA from that same area of Poland. He listed his hometown in Poland as Dziernowy, Austria-Galicia, though. Could your Felix and this Felix have been related? Father- son or uncle-nephew?

I once saw his name at a rootsweb website I frequented and I have a pretty good memory. Went and checked my notes and there he was. Someone, long ago, had asked for help with a US census, finding that name, and I did find him in Chicago. Found another man by the same name in Hartford, Connecticut, too.

The ages of both men are off for your Felix, but being from the same area and with the same name, they could be related. Unless Felix Wnek is a very common name in Poland, which I would not know. It is NOT a common name in the US, apparently, as a quick search at ancestry shows only 3 seperate, distinct Felix's with this last name.

Have you searched familysearch.org or surnamenavigator.org for same-name persons in the US and in Poland, from that area?
