Lech Poznan UEFA Cup

Lech Poznan advanced to group stage of UEFA Cup, on 120 min overtime goal by Murawski.
It was one of the best matches to watch in recent years in polish club football IMO

Great that we were able to score in the last minute a winner as I remember many matches ending with our side taking a goal at the end.

Yeah, wonderful game indeed. I wish i was there, in the stadium (which is nice btw, one of the nicest stadia in Poland). I hope they'll manage to pass the group stage too ;) Go Poznań !

Draw for Group stages of UEFA Cup :

Lech Poznan were drawn into Group H; the Group consists of :

Lech Poznan
CSKA Moscow
Deportivo La Coruna
Feyenoord
Nancy

I believe the top three go through to the next round; each team will play each other only once and will play 2 at home & 2 away.

Lech are my favourite Polish team and it's nice to see them do well. Only Polish side left in Europe! Tough group they've got, but don't write off their chances just yet.

First game next Thursday, at home to Nancy, who tonked Deportivo 3-0 last week. Should be interesting. Anyone know if you can get any Polish radio stations in the UK that might have a commentary?

You certainly didn't see Wisła Kraków in 2002/2003 season

UEFA Cup: Preliminary round: Glentoran Belfast (2:0, 4:0);
UEFA Cup: I round: NK Primorje Ajdovščina (2:0, 6:1);
UEFA Cup: II round: AC Parma (away 1:2, home 4:1);
UEFA Cup: III round: Schalke 04 Gelsenkirchen (home 1:1, away 4:1);
UEFA: 1/8 final: Lazio Rome (away 3:3, home 1:2);

or even that crazy home match vs. Real Saragossa in 2000/2001 UEFA Cup, they lost away 1-4, in the second leg Baszczyński scored own goal already in 6th minute, yet they managed to win 4-1 and went through on penalties.

Well, I didn't see any of games of the 70's when Polish teams were really good, I vaguely remember the 80's with some good results now and then, so I just pointed out some good games in this millenium.

Well, the tournament is played in Sanok, Poland.
The UK team still had chances (losing on penalties against Poland meant 1 point for UK, 2 points for Poland, while there are 3 points for a regular win), but today they lost again to Japan (1-2). So it's now between Japan (6 pts. from 2 matches) and Poland (5 pts. from 2 matches). UK and Romania are out. Only the winner of the Sanok tournament advances to the next stage of qualifications.

Not a bad showing for Lech's first ever group stage match, was it? Shame they didn't win as they could have done, but a point's a point. :-)
