Lets learn more about Polish Political Parties

Ok so here are the main ones today:

Prawo i Sprawiedliwość, PiS
Platforma Obywatelska, PO
Polskie Stronnictwo Ludowe, PSL
Samoobrona RP, SRP
Sojusz Lewicy Demokratycznej, SLD
Partia Demokratyczna - demokraci.pl, PD
Liga Polskich Rodzin, LPR
Socjaldemokracja Polska, SDPL

What do they each stand for? what influences do they have in Poland and everyday reality there? (website addresses of each party would be welcome too and i can attache them to the above)

The list shows the problem. There are too many parties.

Ugh. I disagree, I'd rather have a system as this than one like in the US or Spain where's this basically 2 big parties & that's it! That creates a huge polarisation between people..

If parties having to build coalitions with each other that's better for general understanding & democracy.. look at the N-Irish elections..

But it is important to note that when you vote here the ballot paper is at least A3 size. Not so long ago it was pages long.

One of the problems here is that coalitions do not work. We need a party with an outright majority. It is the only way to restore faith in government here.

I'd be quite happy with five or six well organized parties fighting it out. But in the end there will always be the main two.

I can understand you'd rather have 2 parties.. but you cannot force it. And if you do.. that's the end of democracy. You (or me) want to be able to make a party themselves with the views you think are just or to vote for one that suits your views the most. Even if they only get 2 or 3%.. that's still a lot of people.

It would be easier if there was only a leftist, a conservative & a centre party.. that's for sure, but I think having lots of different parties is an enrichment & that coalitions work because they take into account more different opinions in society.

How many parties are now governing in Poland?

What is the system in Poland

I am still reading through all these pages, but I'm trying to find out more about a group - Narodowe Odrodzenie Polski . NOP

My friend informs me that they are borderline neo-facists and a very volatile group of folks. I tried to read more English information on my own without having to rely on others translations and likely filter opinions, but apparently there's not much translated about them.

Can anyone shed some light on this group for me? I know only what I've been told thus far and I want to have a better understanding of their beliefs and implications.

So - at this point I'm looking to hear all sides of this discussion.

The NAZI party. Thankfully no longer in power!

Nonsense, you cannot back this claim with evidence.

All my Polish friends including my wife tell me that these people are NAZI's. There have even been articles printed in Wyborcza about their rallies. Their policies whilst Pan G was one of the 4 vice PM's should be enough to convince you.

My friend, I live here, I'm interested in politics much more than average Pole and I know political program of all major parties. Beside of that, party promoting Nazi ideology would be banned according to Polish constitution.

As it would everywhere....(neo-conservatism).....in theory!

The problem in Poland is you can only choose right or extream right. Or right village and extreme right village!

Shortly, Polish parliament consist from four parliamentary clubs.

- PO - fake liberals, more centrists
- PiS - social conservatives
- LiD - post-communist left
- PSL - etatist, lightly conservative peasants

Neither from these parties I would call "right".

LiD is slightly centre left. the rest consevative is right!

PO is not really conservative and economically centrist. So generally centrist to my taste.

PiS and PSL are more conservative but also socialist. So does any socialist could described be right wing? Nah ..

Is it true that NOP is very racist, anti-semitic and believe there should be the death penalty for gays...

Are they violent towards any groups of people or more of a political opinion organziation?

Do they preach and perpetuate hate?

Do they present themselves as a Christian organization?

I have also heard that they against capitalism and privatization of business.

Luckily they've never been and hopefully never will be in the Parliament/Government.

NOP even without liberal bias could be describe as a fascist organization but politically they are completely meaningless, got 0,06% of votes 2 years ago, didn't even run in the last elections. On the other hand anybody calling LPR (as stupid as they are) a nazi party is a fool.
