You do realise that most people here can pop out to the shops and buy them for themselves. Most users here live in Poland and those who don't are mostly on a continent you wouldn't be able to economically deliver to. ;-)

By the way, I think you mean railway station rather than train station. Always sad to see someone from the UK who speaks English in a far less cultured way than many foreigners.

Nowadays most mainstream UK brands are available in PL, however Benson and Hedges are better found in large cities? What is it with Lambert and Butler? When I used to smoke, I remember that the only people who bought those those were as rough as a bear's arse.

Look at the link Pawian posted, its will give you the type and prices of cigs available.

I found buying them at local shops a bit of a pain because they don't keep large stocks. They maybe a bit (10%?) more expensive at the airport shops (there are 5 shops airside in Krakow airport) but you can buy as many as you want up to the personal limit. Check each shop (two upstairs, three down) as the prices vary slightly.

Poland should ban smoking

for the health of the population and to reduce health care costs

The govts income from the excise tax is about 3x the healthcare cost.

And then there's the saving made by not needing to pay out pensions for so long to smokers.

Nor to passive smokers either.

There are of course all the costs associated with early deterioration in health, not just oxygen tanks like my granny used to have but also leg amputations and earlier old-folks residential care.

Jeez, 2 months nicotine free and I still want one. But would rather have those extra few years of being fit and healthy.

Sadly a benefit that's being lost as it becomes more and more impossible to smoke anywhere.

I very rarely want a smoke unless I'm drinking. And even then, more than a bit of the time I'll limit myself to only one proven carcinogen.

Passive is all I get nowadays, except for the odd half-a-cig relapse. Better than 2 or 3 packs a day like before. Champix does work, by the way.

There's still a few places in Warsaw that let you if you know where to go. I don't know why Poland is so assiduous (but not as bad as the UK who've scored a real own goal by banning it at one of the world's largest transfer airports).

It seems to work well in Berlin, where some bars are smoking and some non-smoking. It seems to depend on the owner.

I don't know about other airports in Poland as I've only flown from Poznań, but before the airport in Poznań was ...'rebuilt', there was an outdoor smoking area quite literally a 30 second walk from security. Given that it used to take about 5 minutes to get through security and another 10 to walk to the gate, you could have theoretically smoked 20 minutes before boarding. Since remodelling the airport and moving the security entrance to what seems like half a kilometer from the main entrance and then shoving most of the international flight boarding areas in a dodgy tent at the back of the airport, it's no longer possible.

That said, I remember Gatwick's hilarious little smoking "quarantine" zones in the middle of the main departure terminal, though I've not flown from there since 2005, so I don't know how it's changed. Egypt has very "lax" rules when it comes to smoking in the airport. Although I smoke, and in the larger airports it's a bit of an inconvenience, I'm glad that the airports are smoke free. The airport in Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh were utterly dreadful.

Very good. I have zero sympathy for smokers. I cannot wait for the big freeze to come, and seeing them standing on the pavement outside of the office :)

Merged: price , cigarettes

Hello,

Can somebody tell me how much does it cost a packet of Polish cigarettes, the local barands?
Or what is the range they vary?
I can find on the net only the price of Marlboro.
I want to know if there is a cheaper choise of other local brands.

Thank you in advance

Cigarette prices in Poland

I'm thinking of bringing back 4 cartons of Marlboro cigarettes from Poland to Germany, which is the maximum allowance, to give to a friend. Not a smoker myself.

Are cigarette prices the same throughout the country?

What would be the best type of shop to buy them in?

I realize I need to make sure they have the Polish tax label and not a country outside the EU.

Pretty well the same across the country for Marlboro. A supermarket might be a few groszy cheaper than a smaller shop. You can occasionally still find the cheapest at some street markets, though the difference is so small it isn't worth the hassle, even buying in bulk

All cigs in Poland (except the Moldovan ones sold by people lurking on street corners) have the excise sticker (tax label).

Actually from my experience it's usuallly the small tobacco shops that can have them cheaper as it's life or dearh for them to find supplier that has end ot the prize brand batches

There's something in that. There's one under Dw Centralny (unless it's vanished) that sold only cigs and specialised in bulk buys. Giant bags of tobacco too.
