Dziedzic 3 | 43 19 Nov 2011 #1Ideas please. It doesn't have to necessarily be extravagant. What kind of things arent readily available in Poland that are in the USA? Are there any kinds of things desired from the USA that would be cool gifts to send someone in Poland?
pip 10 | 1,659 19 Nov 2011 #2we can pretty much get everything here. a nice gift would be a sports shirt or jersey or cap--something like that.

pam 23 Nov 2011 #11Merged:Is it customary to give xmas presents to Polish people?would just like to know if it is customary to give xmas presents to polish people as it is for english people on xmas day. i was fortunate enough to spend xmas and new year at my friends house in poland . no-one gave presents, but i did know they had financial problems at the time.. now i have many polish friends, but they dont exchange presents either, and they also have money problems. i dont want to embarrass my friends by asking if this is the norm or not. also none of my polish friends. seem to acknowledge birthdays either. its not a problem because its far more important to just spend time with friends and family at this time of year, and i have had 2 extremely good new years eves with my friends....any feedback much appreciated. already fed up with mention of xmas, but i suspect it wont be long before the dreaded word appears...lol!!
ReservoirDog - | 132 23 Nov 2011 #12Well, in Poland we usually give presents to familly members and to girlfriend/boyfriend. To friends we come with wine or...:D, you can give some small presents to your friends children.

ricport - | 1 5 Dec 2011 #17[Moved from]: Purchase Gift Card In The US for Use In Poland?Hello:I have relatives in Katowice & Warsaw, and I'd like to buy each of them a gift card here to send to them for Christmas. I tried IKEA, but gift cards bought in the US are only redeemable here. They are not "high-end" shoppers, so something along the line of a Polish version of Target would be great . . .Anyone know of a Polish chain that allows people in the US to buy gift cards? Thanks!
drew123 1 | 15 6 Dec 2011 #18Merged: Christmas gift/card for my boyfriend's Polish familyhi all!what would be a good idea to send my b/f's family (mum and sister) at christmas... or should i just send a card with a greeting??i haven't meet the family yet so dont want to be ott! Thanks!
Wroclaw 44 | 5,379 6 Dec 2011 #19or should i just send a card with a greeting??stick to the card. gift giving in Poland at christmas is not the same as in the states or uk. they don't pile tons of gifts around the tree. it's more personal.
drew123 1 | 15 6 Dec 2011 #20ah ok, i just didn't want to send something to my b/f and not to his mother, i thought maybe a scarf or just something small like that?but... if it would be better to send just a card then i will do that..thanks :)
Wroclaw 44 | 5,379 6 Dec 2011 #21i thought maybe a scarf or just something small like that?small should be ok. a box of merci chocolates will fit in a large padded envelope and travel as regular post.and a scarf should be ok too.wait for other opinions.

peter_olsztyn 6 | 1,098 29 Dec 2011 #24Hi, I was wondering in Poland for Christmas, do parents sometimes tell their kids the presents are from Święty Mikołaj?Yup. They say that Święty Mikołaj is involved in but kids are very smart today and they know it's from Media Markt :)
