Kamyk 2 | 61 24 Jan 2007 #32Maybe not everyone is going to agree with me but I would describe the majority of Polish ciema as depressing, hard-content, serious. For some movies you really have to be Polish to get what's going on, you have to know the ins and outs of the polish language and culture to really feel the movie. Foreigners often cannot handle our movies, subtitles aren't enough you know. From those "hard" movies I would rate high the following titles: Dlug, Dzien Swira (all three episodes); Symetria; Seksmisja; Sami Swoi; Skazany na Bluesa; Samotnosc w Sieci ...
OP miranda 24 Jan 2007 #33Samotnosc w Sieci ...I read the book.As for your other remarks, I have to agree. Polish conema should lighten up a bit.
iwona 12 | 542 24 Jan 2007 #34I started reading Samotnosc w sieci ( never finished) but I didn't like it much.

Matyjasz 2 | 1,544 25 Jan 2007 #36I quite liked dzien Swira....maybe i am bit weird?Your definitely not weird. It's the best Polish comedy made after 1989, if not in the entire history of Polish cinema!! :)
Eurola 4 | 1,902 25 Jan 2007 #37I am so behind. I only saw Vinci. It was OK. I made a note of the movies mentioned and rent them. See what i'm "missing' :)There was a polish movie festival in Chicago last November and I went to see one movie. I don't remember the title, but it was a "mafia" movie. IT WAS HORRIBLE! Sorry.I did not want to see any other one after that.
shewolf 5 | 1,077 25 Jan 2007 #38The other day I watched Karol: A Man Who Became Pope. It was at the Polish Film Festival in L.A. but I rented the DVD. It was the best movie I have seen in a long time. I wasn't expecting it to be so good. I thought it would focus on the Catholic religion but it wasn't like that at all. It focused more on events and it was very dramatic.
Kamyk 2 | 61 25 Jan 2007 #39I have "Karol..." at home but couldn't find the time to watch it ... now I have more incentive to make time :)
iwona 12 | 542 26 Jan 2007 #41Your definitely not weird. It's the best Polish comedy made after 1989, if not in the entire history of Polish cinema!!I find it amusing.....really good.:)
Madrilenia82 29 Jan 2007 #42which Polish Films do you think are universal?I mean that they would be understood and sucessful abroad?
Madrilenia82 29 Jan 2007 #44you see I liked it very much, because I knew the story, I loved the music... but for example for my spanish friends it was quite hard to realize who was Skrzetuski, who Chmielnicki they confused difficult polish surnames...and as a result they frequently got lost. But they liked the actors for example :-)I also showed them Dlug (translating myself as I couldn't find a transalted version) and they really were fascinated.I would really like to find seksmisja in english (I don't think there is a spanish version) no matter how many times I see it, I always laugh so much! And "Lekarstwo na milosc" (the medicine for love) thiiiis isss great! It is based on Klin from Joanna Chmielewska....anybody has seen it? A little bit old but... such an eternal topic :-)

iwona 12 | 542 5 Feb 2007 #48few months ago I was watching "Nad Niemnem" quite good film.But what about...classics like Mis,Brunet wieczorowa pora,.....
teo_tr 6 Feb 2007 #50I would say the best Polish films I have seen are from 70's-80's and from Lodz Film School directors. To name a few:czlowiek z marmuru-wajdailuminacja-zanussiprzypadek-kieslowskiand also la double vie de veronique-kieslowski.i would also love any movie whose soundtrack is made by zbigniew preisner.
nyka 3 | 15 20 Feb 2007 #51I saw Polisz Kicz Projekt, director Mariusz Pujszo. That's type of irony that I prefer, kurka wodna. :) Is that film well-known in Poland?
Babylon 16 | 192 20 Feb 2007 #52Ogniem i MIeczem, Potop, Krzyżacy, Kiler 1, Kiler 2 - nothing else meters
nyka 3 | 15 22 Feb 2007 #53...and Cezary Pazura! I saw just 'Ajlawju' and 'Nienasycenie'. He's great! Comediant and dramatic actor. In 'Nienasycenie' He makes three roles and all are different. What do you think of him?
