I'd like to go to Mexico...

hi good people.
i'd like to go to mexico next year but don't realy know where.
this country is quite big
which side is better-the carribean or the pacific ocean one?
what would be the weather like there in june.i checked the prices online and they drop drastically in june.anyone know the reason?
what is the best starting place for trips to the jungle and watching wildlife?

I know Mexico may seem to be a cheap country (for Europeans at least ;), but - are you going on an organized tour or would like to rent a car and drive from East to West... If the latter one, you need to know Mexico looks good and is "safe" only around the places the majority of the tourists go. Other areas don't even have paved roads or stores not to mention even an average standard facilities. Unless you are in a group with a guide you should be fine, but lonely trips out of the tourist areas aren't a good idea.

Not sure exactly why, but I think there may be 2 main reasons:

1. In June all places throughout the US are very nice (weather-wise) so people from the US - even if they have vacations - don't go there as they have plenty of other options.

2. It may be very hot there in June (I think the prices to go to Florida in June are lower than in the wintertime).

do you know what part of mexico is best for seein its wildlife?

Because it is not peak season. I'm going on a cruise in February and another one at the end of March---both cruises leave port in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, but my flight in Feb. is only $235 and the flight in March is $430; the same room type on the cruise March is $200 more than February's. All this is because Spring Break is considered peak travel time for the United States.

What kind of wildlife are you hoping to see?

i hope to see some birds there.

i thought that was due to some sudden change in the weather.i wouldn't like to go there if the temp was below 20 degrees

No I don't think the temperature would ever get down to 20 degrees in Mexico---even in it's northernmost parts. It's usually very warm down there. What I meant by peak season, was travel season---the person in post#4 explained it. During the summer months in U.S., the whole country is warm and there are too many places that families travel to within the U.S., so Mexico is not that popular of a destination in comparison at that time.

Quintana Roo is on the Carribean side of Mexico and there's some pretty cool wildlife there---spider monkeys, jaguars, alligators. I'm not sure what exotic birds are there but I assume there are some. My guess would be to go somewhere inland to see birds or down towards the jungle like areas near Belize. I'm not too familiar with the Pacific side since I haven't been there since I was a kid but you should be able to find some sites online if you can't find anyone here who knows about that side of Mexico.

Mexico has gotten so bad recently with the crime problems that people aren't going there anymore. Foreigners disappear there all the time. People also get kidnapped and held for ransom. But if you really want to go there, make sure it's with a tour group. I would suggest a cruise that departs from somewhere else and goes along the Mexican coast and makes stops at popular towns.

As far as the weather is concerned, it gets very hot in the summer months and extremely humid so it's better to go before the heat. There are also sometimes hurricanes during hurricane season.

Foreigners also end up in Mexican jails for stupid reasons and can't get out or they end up dead.

Feburary thru Easter is tourist season in Florida and in Mexico, prices are a lot higher.
I`ve been to Cozumel and Cancun thats real nice. The weather is about 80 F then
by June Id say in the 90s humid and it rains alot. Hurricane season starts up........



True!!!!!! I dont think I would go into the mountains without guides or wouldnt want
get lost somewhere.



I would especially stay away from the Border towns like Tijauna and Juarez
you could get in trouble real quick there. You defenetly dont want to get
arrested.... Shewolf aint lyin!

And DONT DRINK THE WATER! You will get sooo sick! Check the bottled water to make
sure the ring isnt cracked...... they like to refill em up

Trouble finds those who seek it. I've surfed, fished, hiked, jetski'd, and drank up and down Baja and trouble never found me. It helps when you speak a bit the language, though.

I said Jaurez and Tijauna thats messed up around there.
Theres nothing wrong with Baha, Acapulco theres plenty of good places to see

I know what you wrote. I'm not too familiar with Juaraez, but I am very familiar with TJ. I live in San Diego County, and I take(I drive) my daughter on weekend vacations to Rosarito to Ensenada and beyond quite often. They've made some improvements on the roads going in and of of TJ as well as improvements on the Toll road.

Also, the best Tequilla I've had to date is home made from Guadalajara.. GOOD STUFF!

I've heard it's defo a good place for sightseeing. a friend of mine has been there a few years back, said it was cool. bit expensive from here though, but all the people who visited have good things to say about it, so I might want to go there in the near future.

you have to get a few injections though, only I don't know which ones anymore.

Mr R if you are in to twitching, have a look at this guys site he's done some travelling with this bird watching and it might give you some ideas where to go to see some different breeds, he's actually very good, my x was a twitcher and really enjoyed his programms, he also visited some Island off the coast of England which had some rare breeds.

Baja California is different than the rest of Mexico. If you're going to Baja, that's another story. But if you're going to other parts of Mexico, crime is a serious issue and any tourist is a target, not just those who are looking for trouble. The key is to read the warnings from the Mexican government and follow them, like not getting into certain colored taxi's, etc.

I can recommend Maroma Beach. Not quite as dangerous and has a fantastic beach. You can take jungle tours, cave tours and I'm sure you'll get plenty of exotic bird watching in. I've also been to Tijuana and I don't recommend it at all...unless you're looking for a donkey show.

you are right sledz.i've checked the weather for june.monthly rainfall is about 25cm which is a half of the year's rainfall in poland!
mmm...it is a hard nut to crack.
