Living In Torun, have no TEFL or CELTA; help me Im getting desperate

Hi My name is Oliver I have been living in Poland now for 2 months with my girlfriend Kasia Who I love very very much. I am desperate to find a job here and I can see the most obvious route to take is teaching. I dont have any TEFL or CELTA courses but it looks like this might be my only option. Is there anyone that can help me or give me some advice? My Polish is basic but I am studying every day for 2-3 hours so it is improving greatly. I think the best option is to attempt to organise some one-on-one tutoring e.g Conversation classes. Please someone help me I couldn't bear to have go back to England and leave my girlfriend but I know i cant stay here forever without a job Please Please help me....

Go and teach the Callan method. Look for schools that teach Callan.

Basically Callan method is easy to learn, the schools teach it themselves to their teachers as a native it is a quicker option than CELTA. Plus once you have go class room experience saved up some cash you can study for CELTA in Poland. And then go and tech using this other method. Never panic.

Go to the local university and advertise for conversation English classes. Put ads in local papers things like that.

Alternatively go back to UK and sign on the dole, then fly back out to Poland and you will recieve jobseekrs allowance for three months in Poland at the UK rate. See other thread with these suggestions on.

I was going to suggest Callan as well - you wont need a TEFL/TESOL qualification and the method seems popular in Poland

mate, my girlfriend also lives in Torun, It's a brilliant place to be. I'm trying to get a number of web businesses of the ground and plan to move to Poland, obviously the income from theese businesses will come from England. At the moment though I'm working as a self employed web designer in England and just coming to Poland every month.

My friend is getting some inheritance and his parents are going to buy him a house in Poland which means I'll be able to rent from him very cheaply.

I know how you feel about not wanting to go back to England, everytime I come back I'm so depressed, it's just not the same is it!

Thanks for youre help Two days after sending emails to the schools mentioned above I recieved a job offer and I am now an English teacher. I have also met a fellow englishman who works at the school as well We are both around the 20 year old mark so It's a great start to the job. Thanks

Most of schools sign contracts = umowa o dzieło that don't cover health insurance.

Surely it cant be true! Does anyone know of any English pubs or places that I can meet some fellow Brits. Im missing English football and I would like to know if there is anywhere here where I can see it

I am sure that University in Torun and ESL private schools employ some native speakers, so get out of the house and go there, ask around. gee......

Hi ukinpoland,this is a bit off topic and i,m glad that you are finding your feet in poland.
I am from Bradford and i left the U.K when i was 22 which must have been about the time that you were born if me maths are correct.What sparked my reply is when you said that the U.K is not what it used to be which is weird for me as i thought the same thing at the time and have not (apart from visits)been back to work or live.
I i lived in france for 4 and then West)Berlin for about 20 years and at the end of june i will be moving to Poland....all the best

Hi, my name is Michelle. I left England to be with my boyfriend and have been living here in Torun for just over a month. I know the feeling of not having a job and im going crazzzzyyy!! I also don't have any teaching qualifications and would like to give this teaching a go. So you're not the only Brit; i miss little things about England, but I know that it wouldn't be easy to leave Torun. Glad it's working out for you. I wonder if you could tell me about the necessary papers one needs as an "EU" citizen in Poland?.iI know from France and then Germany that each country has its own "extra" bit of burocracy.
