Logon/Logoff

Quick question for Admin or Mods, whoever knows the answer!

If I am on PF while at work and I forget to Logoff, will that mean I can't access PF from my home PC?

Are you sure? I have not forgotten to logoff at work so far but that's because I share a comp. I think it would be quite strange to be able to logon in many different locations? :)

One sec and ill test it, i'll log on from my other computer while being logged on this one :)

Correct. It's possible to logon in many different locations. Just like you may be logged on to the same email account, for example.

Hmm, dunno if I like this. Means if I do one day become distracted at work and leave the computer, someone could post as me! Doesn't it???

Not my main email account Admin, if I try and log in to it from another location and I haven't logged out somewhere else it won't let me open it.

Do you know that your ISP may check which sites you have visited and what time? I think that's more worrisome than forgetting to click on the Logout link...

Seriously though, I don't even know what that means. I thought one of the points of your ISP was that they should know where and when you've been? No? I dunno. Admin, help me!

It's as worrisome as someone else from work using your computer or looking up your web history and try to post as you... If you use Windows and share computer, you may create identities on this computer and when you finish the work, log off and let the other person use their own identity. Or simply don't forget to logoff if you really have to.

But why is it worrisome your ISP would be able to check?

Admin, I think we've got mixed up somewhere. I was concerned that by getting distracted at work (a serious distraction - not just someone talking to me or something) I would get up and leave the computer as it was. Therefore on PF and logged in. After that I might end up going home and not thinking about it and when I log in at home, none the wiser (as its apparently possible to log in from multiple locations) I may find that someone (and there are idiots in my workplace) have commented on here using my identity. What's my point? ...hmm, erm...yeah, why doesn't it automatically Log Out when the computer shuts down?

Not saying that anyone has posted as me but worried that it's a possibility in the future. What about Internet Cafe's or do they have some way of getting around this???

Because when someone "doesn't like you" and wants to open a case against you (for whatever reason that may be related to your online life), they may get a subpoena from court and ask your ISP to reveal your online browsing history, for example, without your consent.

you can make it do that doll.. turn on the privacy feature that erases all your past everytime the browser is shut off.

what browser are you using? it should be in the tools-->internet options or something like that..

The same situation may be with this - let's say you have your favourite pen in your drawer and your cooworker may use it while you're at home.

Have you ever talked about it to your manager and asked him/her to "do something about that"? What do you think the manager would advise you to do? (I think most of them would ask you to be careful and take the pen with you whenever you leave the desk - eg. to log off if you don't trust your coworkers).


Because most users do not share their computers and prefer to automatically log-in unless logout.


Again, that could be something to worry for MOST users 10 years ago when they shared their computers with several people or used Internet cafes. Nowadays that's not the case anymore.

So when you have to, don't forget to logout.
