Well, the Polish word for James is Jakub. Actually, I think James is a dimunitive or form of Jakub.

Anyway, here you go, bear with me:

Jacob Cutake, 28, born Poland, naturalized 1923 in PA, wife Mamie, age 25, born Poland, son Jacob, age 4, born in NJ, living in Paterson, NJ, USA in 1930. Language spoken at home: Czech and Polish.

No James or Jacob Cytacki of the right age at any eastern seaboard port I can find--though I did see lots of other Cytackis at the Ellis Island, Philadelphia and Baltimore ports.

Also I found two Mitchells born in PA--about 20 years apart. Which is yours? I could work backward from the known Mitchell and get a bit closer to James for you.

Lucy Maday, 37, arrived in US in 1912, wife of Joseph Maday, 38, arrived in 1900, both born in Poland, lived in Newport, Luzerne, PA, on Prospect Hill in 1930. In the home are her children (his step children) Mitchell Citacki, Zigmund, Wanda and Kazimer Citacki, along with their child, Sophia Maday, and a boarder named Aloysious Gurka. Mitchell was age 16 in 1930, born in PA, parents born in Poland. Lucy and Joseph have been married approx. 7 years as of 1930. She was age 20 at her first marriage and was age approx. 30 at her second marriage.

Lucy was a naturalized citizen, so you should try and get her naturalization application form, which will show where she was from in Poland. They couldn't apply until approx 5 years after they arrived, so you know a timeline for that, based on the arrival dates. She may (most likely) have been naturalized thru this or the previous husband, via marriage, rather than on her own. You can try and get the forms from Luzerne County courthouse or the appropriate office for that in PA.

I will keep looking for James for you, but have found no one close in age or location that could be him. Can't find him at Ellis Island or at the Baltimore or Philadelphia ports, either.

Hi Henry,

Did you try to obtain Mitchell's birth record from PA?

Also, if Lucy applied for a SS card, her application may list her birth town information.
