Hello my name is Jesse and I am a college student in the United States, I'm currently working on an assignment for my global cultures class where I have to interview someone from Poland and I figured this would be a good spot to start.

This interview is open to anyone who is from Poland.

If anyone would like to help me with my interview project please either respond in the form or e-mail the response Jesse.bower@gmail.com. I know your time is valuable and if you only have time to answer one or two questions he would still be greatly appreciated.

The interview questions are as follows,

How do people greet each other – (shake hands, bow, embrace, other)?

As a visitor to the country, would you exchange gifts at the first meeting? What gifts are considered appropriate?

How are children educated? At what age do they begin school? Do boys and girls generally go to separate schools, or are they separated by sex in the same school? Do they usually wear uniforms?

How is garbage collection dealt with?

What is the normal dress for men and women?

What foods, if any, are generally not eaten or possibly considered taboo?

Are there gestures or movements that would not be acceptable in polite society?

Is it acceptable to bargain for goods at department stores or at markets?

How do people spend their leisure time? What kinds of leisure activities do they participate in?

What are normal work hours? Are most stores open on weekends? What days might they be closed?

What are the important holidays? Are there special observances of these holidays?

Where and how do people get married? What is the average marriage age? Is it acceptable not to get married? What is the attitude toward divorce?

Who are (or were) the major artists and writers?

What kind of music is popular at this time? Who is the major pop star or movie star at the present time?

If your multilingual and you were raised speaking Polish but since that have picked up another language as your primary language do you still dream in Polish.

If you could have an all expenses paid trip to anywhere in the world will would your destination be, and why.

Hi.

How do people greet each other – (shake hands, bow, embrace, other)?

Men shake hands with each other, with women they are often still kissing their hands, but that 's rather older generation, personally I nor kiss neither shake (uless she do that first), just say hi or something.

Rather not.

7 years old, there is also something like 0 level for 6 years old children, but I'm not sure If now that's obligatory. Boys and girls are not separated, at least not in public skools. Usually they don't wear uniforms but there are some plans to change that.

Pretty much the same like elswhere in Europe I would say.

Not as much "tolerance" for homos as in most of Europe, don't know what else...

Is it acceptable to bargain for goods at department stores or at markets?

At stores not, at markets yes but people don't do that often.

Again pretty much the same like elswhere in Europe I would say.

7AM/3PM or 8AM/4PM, these are the most usual. On saturdays almost all are opened, on sundays only some. On national holidays rather few are opened.

What are the important holidays? Are there special observances of these holidays?

Independence day - 11th November, Labor day - 1st May, Constitution day - 3rd May, there is also something like Flag day on 2nd May - invented not long ago just to give a free day between those two There are also all these holidays connected with Catholic religion.

Usually in a church. Avg age for women about 24, for men about... 27... more or less. It is acceptable but not very common. Not very good but divorces happens like in other countries.

Who are (or were) the major artists and writers?

Henryk Sienkiewicz, Bolesław Prus, Stanisław Lem - I'm rather neandertal in case of culture so can't say much

What kind of music is popular at this time? Who is the major pop star or movie star at the present time?

Generally MTV crap + some locals doing music similar to that.

A part of the assignment to be able a show proof that the interview actually happened, which I can do just by pointing to this form. The second part of the requirement is some form of contact info (e-mail) and just a slight little bit of background on the person that answered the questions.

This information will not to be passed out to anyone, it is just so that if the instructor doubts i actually did an interview they can follow up with the interview.

Grading Criteria
Evidence that interview was done, including name and background of person interviewed: 0 – 20 points
Synopsis of interview is thorough, and it is an accurate reflection of the interview: 0 – 35 points
Reflective paragraph: 0 – 15 points
Accurate spelling, grammar, and mechanics: 0 – 10 points
